but this only speaks well of alis character. not dundee.
do you have a a source on ali being ok with this?
seems like dundee just wanted more money tbh
It is probably the first time I heard Dundee never owned a percentage. Clay's first backers were business types out of Kentucky and then later the Black ******s. Dundee was never allowed to buy in.

a digression . . .
I remember before the '71 fight they were stating that Ali would only get about 46% of whatever his purse would be and that Frazier, who was somehow part of a 'stock' investment company, would get a whole 52% of his purse.
These guys end up giving up so much of their battle monies it seems unfair.

Usually it starts with 33 1/3% for a manger and then 10% for a trainer. Add in a few other things/guys and soon you are close to, or below the 50% mark. -- A friend of mine is in for 3% of Teofimo Lopez, (but I THINK his comes from the manager's % I am not sure). He got involved back at the beginning.
I remember at the time ('71) them saying that Frazier did better than most and that Ali wasn't unusual.
The way Frazier was 'owned' was by a group of business men who created a stock company (Joe Frazier). Frazier was the major stock holder of the company, 52%. (Something like that, it has been a few years, sorry).
I suspect Ali had the Black ******s involved at several levels.
And of course those percentages are BEFORE taxes are paid.

- -Pep, I wouldn't trust a word of Herbert and the like being astute on the NY tax laws applied to 2.5mil apiece Ali and Joe earned for FOY, but they were outrageous then and more so now.
George and Joe first ended in Jamaica where they could recieve most of their 2.5 and George never had a title fight in the states until he was 40 for those reasons.
NY ends in bankruptcy with boxing in decline as the goodfellas moved out west to Vegas and LA AND NOW BOXING booms.
