I'm pretty sure in the book "the rise and fall of the third reich" been a while since I read it, has written documentation that the **** party didn't like Schmeling, but they said they could use him for propaganda, or at least try to. Schmeling actually seemed like a bit of a progressive thinker, he seemed less racist than even the acceptable norm of the day.

That being said, no not every German was a **** in ww2 - but I can sympathize with the statement you make. Plenty of them were sheep like most societies are including America. Whatever the norm is society follows. The **** party was the ruling elite at the time and therefore the norm. Any German that snitched on their neighbours, in my opinion, is a ****, and plenty of them did. Schmeling by a lot of accounts was actually an outcast in this regard, a brave person risking his life for not agreeing with the **** party. I mean, thats what a lot of accounts say. Thats all we can go by.

actually at the time it was more financially lucrative to be in league with the ****s. that is why he stayed while others fled.
