    McLarnin, Ross, Canzoneri

    How do you rank them?

    I actually have it:

    Canzoneri
    McLarnin
    Ross

Yes, Ross bested them, but most of the wins were close, or even questionable. He was also the biggest and freshest of the three. But maybe he looks the best/most refined on film?

McLarnin has the best scalps and finishes.

But Canzoneri was chronically undersized through out his career. He was recognized as the P4P of his time, and for good reason.

Maybe I am going too much against the grain here, but I feel the results of those fights actually obscure the reality.

All are tremendous fighters, and among the best to have ever laced-up gloves.

I'm almost in agreement, except I have McLarnin, Canzoneri, and then Ross

Canzoneri undersized but the best of the bunch. Canzoneri vs Duran I would have loved to see.

I rank them the same order.

Now that would have been a fight!

Now I must simply sit & listen & learn, for these three lads represent a black hole in my boxing history knowledge. They never interested me much--for whatever reason--and it would be natural in that case for me to underrate them. And since I have very little knowledge of them I have no basis from which to rate them comparatively. Entertain me, lads.

Of all the boxers before the Louis/Robinson/Pep era, Canzoneri is probably the one that has impressed me the most.

            My order would be:
            Canzoneri
            McLarnin
            Ross

Before Robinson, Canzoneri was being called the P4P King of Boxing.

McLarnin from the age of 16 to 28 beat more HOFers than anyone else on record. True HOF'ers. His KO of Corbett 3 is one of the most legendary in Boxing history: a 1st round KO of a true master.. a guy who would turn around and outclass (a faded and weight-drained) Mickey Walker.

Ross was a true technician. A master class Boxer who'd stand his mud. Not a slickster. But very sound and competent defensively. Possibly one of the absolute toughest we've ever seen enter the ring.... never dropped, despite fighting men like Canzoneri, McLarnin, and Armstrong.

Their fights are on YouTube. Each one of them is as good as any man who's ever laced up gloves. And they're entertaining as hell.
