why is hagler rated so highly??

how is hagler rated so highly???
he NEVER left middleweight division lol.
he lost to a natural welterweight (srl), coming off of 2 of his best wins (mugabi, hearns)

apparently leonard didnt get old, but hagler did.
leonard's style is more reliant on his age than hagler if anything. srl relied on his speed, and thats the first to go.

    Dude just stop.

Watch the guy box. He's literally one of the finest technical fighters ever. He could lead with either hand, box and punch, lead and counter. He was superb.

Not a one punch KO guy but he could **** pretty good. Plus arguably the greatest chin ever too.

There is something that younger fans don't understand. When all the titles are unified, a champion has to defend against all the top contenders. When there are three or four titles a champion is able to satisfy one origination's top contenders often with out ever meeting the best in the division, which today are often the other champions. Additionally all the top contenders are forced to fight each other making the division better and stronger. This is one reason historical champions often are highly ranked over titlists that refuse to unify. Back then the champions did not have the modern benefit of picking and choosing which style suits them or which is a sure win. They had to fight the best in the division over and over again.

In the case of Hagler, he was the number one contender for years before he got his chance. The Ring ****zine named him the uncrowned champion while he waited. But Hagler did not sit and wait for his turn. In the time he was number 1, he fought and beat five more top ten contenders.

When he finally won the title he had to fight top contender after to contender to retain it, as well as to satisfy the sanctioning bodies. The majority of these top contenders he dominated.

Its more meaningful to stay in a division and take on top contender after top contender than to hop from one division to the other picking out alphabet champions.

All to their own opinion, but my opinion is Marvin is not ATG Top 10 middleweight

Hagler dominated a strong division and beat fellow ATGs in Thomas Hearns and Roberto Duran. Though neither of 'em were fellow middleweights, Hearns was built like a LHW and could handle the weight and Duran was probably pushing it. Still, he managed to beat up poor ol' Davey Moore and Iran Barkley around that weight.

Hagler also waited a long time for that shit. On the way up he lost to Bobby Watts and Willie Monroe, later avenging both defeats. He beat Monroe twice pretty much right after he lost and also beat other top contenders. Yet Hagler still waited for his shot. When he finally get the shot against Antuofermo the result was a draw and ze Marvellous one was sure they're trying to job him out of a title.

It's around here he really adheres to the 'Go To War' style he's well known for and made sure it wouldn't be left in the judges' hands.

The fight against Leonard had been talked up for a while but that was always a bit of apprehension from SRL's team. Until one day a press conference is called, all the World's media are invited and Hagler too. This is it Hagler thinks, this is the fight being announced... Leonard announces his retirement.

See, go back to that time before Hagler fought Antuofermo when he wasn't being given the chance. Then he was given the shot against the Italian and 'robbed' and now SRL has taken away the chance of Hagler being recognised and renowned for his ability.

Hagler personified hard work and determination, doing his road work in army boots and was once quoted saying, 'If you cut off the top of my head all you'll find is a boxing glove'. This is a man who had all the skills top it off too. He could box in either stance, jab like a ******* and had the power & speed to go with it. Does the chin even need to be mentioned.

If there is one man in middleweight history that would really bring it to Golovkin, really test ze Kazakh's arsenal it's Hagler and the Marvellous one would be victorious. Great fighter and my favourite along with James Toney.
