i consider hearns' right hand the best in boxing history, but his straight right. he could certainly loop it over the top and did it well but not among the best ever. hearns' money punch was the right hand straight down the pipe. jackson i agree with 100%.

great call. so many people get obsessed with powerand just pick the biggest right hand puncher they can think of. question wasnt who had the hardest overhand right though, it was the best.

nobody seems to get away from hopkins' right hand, its his premier weapon and its always effective. never seen someone successfully neutralize hopkins' right hand or even come close. id take that right hand over one that can lay you out if it lands but seldom does.

someone else said shavers, great call despite what i just said about hopkins. shavers got that punch in against great defensive fighters and it always caused tremendous damage when it did.

tim witherspoon deserves a mention imo. he developed this unique overhand right where his forearm would be almost vertical with the fist up as he threw it before coming down over the guard in a whipping motion. it was fast, accurate and very powerful, the unusual way he threw it made it hard for people to avoid too. who will ever forget the brutal overhand right he caught eklund with? that **** was just nasty.

I think if I had a short list Shavers Baeur and Lewis would be on it for the heavies.

Spoon's right came right over the top, not at an arc like most of the others mentioned. I remember him flattening a Swede (Andes Ecklund?) with it in the first minute of a fight on the USA channel.

Is there a difference between an overhand right, and a straight right...

I tend to think a straight right would be lennox, foreman, etc..

Overhand right, i tend to think it more looping over the gloves from above, and not straight down the middle.... Thats why i chose mayorga, Im sure their are better options, but his overhand right over the top was a pretty good punch, but he never had a good straight right down the pipe like lennox, foreman...
