    Max Baer:
Possibly the most fun fight of the lot but Dempsey takes it by a very late stoppage. Baer at his best could with stand some serious punches.

    James J. Braddock:
Dempsey beats him up. No happy ever after for the Cinderella Man.

    Max Schmeling:
dempsey again, all day, too much speed, power and ferocity.

    Joe Louis:
This would be a great fight. If the power of lesser men got to Louis, Dempsey would hit that chin and hit it often. If Louis can withstand the pressure, the power and the speed he can eek out a close decision. I don't think Dempsey wins a decision here.

    Tommy Farr:
Not much power but could take a show, I think Dempsey probably stops him mid rounds.

    Jersey Joe Walcott:
I think Walcott could out box Dempsey here. Tie him up, hit him with angles, don't think Dempsey fought any boxer quite like this guy.

    Ezzard Charles:
I see Chales outboxing him and winning a wide UD as long as he stays away from the power.

    Rocky Marciano:
Wow, Marciano would get hit all night but I doubt he gets stopped, could Marciano hit and hurt Dempsey often enough? I think so. Who gets stopped? Dempsey in my opinion, Marciano dropping him around teh 13th or 14th and stopping him.

    You didn't mention Archie Moore:
So here goes, I think Moore has the skills and the wiley know how of an old pro to frustrate Dempsey but could he take Dempsey's power? If he can, then he decisions the Manassa Mauler.
I've actually heard of Primo having weak power for a guy his size.

God damn i forgot Moore too.

I'll the edit the other two in the original post.

Is it just me or does Max Baer seem like a heavy weight Ricardo Mayorga.

I guess if you factor in his size but he still has a good KO percentage and knocked guys down.

Yep, Moore was a player even at heavy in those days.

No, that's actually a great comparison..
Baer Dempsey would be damn entertaining if nothing else
Dempsey Moore however, is the ultimate dream match imo

krist in a kross!!!! thats an excellent analogy! There are some very similar factors at work for sure and the underlying personality for sure. Both guys would talk and clown ya, could punch a hole through your roof, but were actually good guys, would shake on a good fight, etc.

Heres a Baer story I heard illustrating his sense of humor: During the Louis fight he was getting plastered. He walks back to his corner and his corner tells him "way to go Maxy this guy ain't doin' nothin' to ya!" Where upon the punch weary Baer quips: "Well Jack I need you guys to watch and restrain the ref..because he/somebody is beating the **** out of me!"

And of course we have some famous Mayorga bon mots like the one a poster has in his sig about Mayorga saying to Forest "Vernon I am going to sew a sack of nuts on you so you can stand by me man to man."

All the laughs I've had reading about Mr. Baer ...
Though, if that guy had taken a more serious approach to his occupation,
how great couldn't he have been?

Mayorga having such a throwback style and demeanor I can agree to that

I guess the only guarantee is that those would have all been amazing fights! I wish I would've been alive to have the privilege to watch the great Jack Dempsey live in the ring against any opponent.

Even taking such a half-assed approach to boxing Baer still killed three men in the ring. It's scary to think the destruction he could have wrought if he'd taken things seriously.

Never occured to me..... Actually whenever I see pictures of him throwing that right I ask myself that question....the guy was country strong!

But Ben are you aware of the theory regarding Maxi? It was said that killing two men (one direct one indirectly) made him gunshy and who can blame him?
alas he was a lovable loute by all accounts, Howard did a great job villianizing him for the Braddock flic but it was a fun movie and a lot of people came to Maxi's aid!
