That being said, I rate the Lightweights this way:

    1. Duran
    2. Leonard
    3. Gans
    4. Whitaker

I'm not a strictly resume guy like many are. If I was then Leonard would be in the top spot. It's far and away the best resume in the weight class.
good post, thank you for your input,, no carlos ortiz though on your list???
but your top 4 is very solid, no complaints from me

arcel was quoted in the book written by Donald dewy that benny vs Roberto would be a whisker close victory for benny. I think it would be close but see it the other way. arcel was deeply wounded by no mas

Ortiz is someone I can't seem to make up my mind about. Sometimes I have him at #5, sometimes I have Jack Blackburn at #5.

          honestly

if you had a round robin tournament with:

          benny
          ike
          armstrong
          ross
          duran
          gans
          pernell
          chavez
          floyd
          argeullo
          ortiz

all of them would have some losses and wins, and the best record would most likely
be 6-4 and there would probably a few guys tied for the lead...

With that much talent, it is hard for me to declare one guy the GOAT at 135

I was the same way for a long time, could never quite judge ortiz like i could leonard or gans or ike

But over the last year or so, i have read up and watched him alot, and he is truly a top 5 guy in my eyes and perhaps top 3

That's true for most weight classes Featherweight and up when you start looking at the top-10s in each. Do a round robin of the top-ten Welters and even Robinson will pick up a loss or two while leading the pack.

As I like to say, any legit ATG fighter is capable of winning a fight against any other legit ATG fighter in his weight class on any given night (barring the rare prohibitive style matchup a la Foreman vs swarmers). That's why in h2h matchups I like to think in terms of ten fight series (like you used to see back in the pre-WWI days) and who would come out on top and by how much.
