bad mamajama in general. Foreman once told of a story where at Liston's camp while George was a sparring partner there that he gave Sonny a book on star signs (i think that was the book anyway!). Liston who was illiterate took it as an insult and was somewhat embarrassed, his response was to smack it out of Foreman's hand and tell him get out of his Fucking face

Tyson and Liston are very close.... but the mystery behind the life of Sonny Liston, coupled with his stunning KO's of Patterson put him into somewhat mythical status. The original "baddest man on the planet".

Liston, i think just edges it over Tyson..
My favorite Liston story, was in July 1963 when Sonny and his publicist, Ben Bentley were in Washington and got an invitation to meet Lyndon Johnson, who was vice-president at the time. As he led them into his office, Johnson began to talk compulsively and show them around, the sullen Liston looked at Bentley and whispered in his ear, 'Whaddaya say we blow this bum off.' Four months later, Johnson became president after the JFK assassination.

Fans tend to blow the whole "He's scared of him" out of proportion. Take Garcia vs Matthysse for example, it's on already without much fuss. If u pay a fighter well enough they'd fight a Tiger. It (the fear) tends to be more of losing and everything that go's with it rather than fear of being hurt or the fighter in front of them. Fighters can be intimidated though there is no doubt about it, Seldon and Bruno and Spinks among many others were scared ****less of Mike Tyson for example

In terms of their presence, I'd probably say Tyson. Some of his ring entrances are menacing and frightening. No emotion, no fear. You just knew got the feeling his opponent knew they were about to be crushed/on the end of a brutal knockout. Spinks was well beaten before the the bell even ringed.
Holyfield had great success with Tyson because he was not the slightest intimidated by Tyson and his antics. Holyfield was always game and never feared anybody. But the majority of Tyson opponents seemed beaten men.
Tyson just always had that aura about him. He didn't give a ****, and wanted to inflict pain on his opponents, and they knew it. Tyson meant business and was merciless. Every punch he threw with anger and bad intentions.
All four were frightening opponents. Foreman was a scary looking guy to be honest, and the way he carried himself. His punches had so much force, he could knock an elephant over!

I think Tyson post-Spinks might edge Liston. Tyson really took guys out early in ways that Liston usually didn't. Also, the ringwalks were terrifying (especially with those chains clanging for the Spinks fight and rumors that he'd punched through the dressing room wall). Beating the crap out of Mitch Green in the street didn't hurt either.
