He wasn't looking down, per se, he was staring at their chest, as many - if not most - of his opponents were taller. You can't staredown someone by looking up.

You're letting your disdain for Tyson get the better of you. The thread-starter qualified his topic by saying "before Douglas." Nobody "handled" Tyson before Buster.

Read an interview with Brian London once, he said Liston was in the UK for a fight or whatever reason sitting at this flimsy looking table answering Press questions. London in the thankless pursuit of a fight with Liston stormed up to said table full of fire and as he unleashed his tirade on Sonny he thumped the flimsy looking table with his fist for effect, the table however flipped over causing a scene and Big Sonny just Shot London a Glare, as Brian recalls it, a glare like u never saw before, cold! With that the Englishman took off without even finishing his verbal assault! Shaken from the mere stare of Liston

For the record, ive just returned home from a wedding and i think the clarity of this post deserves some green K because its taken me about 20mins in my drunken state!

This thread is based purely on the intimidation factor and regardless if u rate him or not Tyson was a scary dude. Look at Mike Spinks, Frank Bruno and Bruce Seldon among others....

        Also Tyson was 100% Heavyweight

Tyson as a 15 yr old J.O. Heavyweight Champion weighed in at 191lbs! I know cause I weighed him in!!! To me his best was 205 to 212 but to make 201 at 21 yrs old would be way to much to ask! Ray.

            Louis
            Marciano
            Liston

Gotta disagree Ray. Fighters go out and do what they have to do in spite of fear. Dempsey admitted fearing Langford, Baer admitted fearing Louis, Liston Supposedly (not sure I agree) feared the black ******s in the 2nd Ali fight, Foreman said he was scared to death of Frazier.

are you kidding me? Tyson couldn't have made the cruiserweight limit, even as a teenager he was a heavyweight.

you dont consider Rudduck, Berbick, Thomas, Tucker, Spinks, Tubbs, Bruno, Williams, and Smith to be top opponents? Are you ****ing kidding me?

But Liston was always nice and polite. So was Tyson (pre all that other **** shyt). Foreman was the most unpredictable champion of all times. He was the guy threatening journalists to break their arms and legs.

It's close. But I go for foreman. No mention of Max Baer?

There can be some apprehension about loosing their spot a top and the chance of loosing financial levels by a loss or losses! The talk about fearing is a compliment fighters give to one another and the use of the word fear is acknowledged by the fans!
Just think if your George Foreman, your in top condition getting ready to fight for a title and your in "fear"? Sorry it don't happen that way fellows!
I fought for a short 4 years (30 fights) I handled hundreds of fighters in thousands of fights and fear was never discussed and never shown!!!
Its not part of the sport on the inside fighters don't fear other fighters, they do fear fallure and never met one who wasn't concerned about their opponent if he were hurt! Controlling an assortment of emotions is the first demention that a fighter needs to get a hold of!

:Lots of fights are happening long before the bell rings!! Fearing your opponent isn't an option!!! Ray.

not being a hardass here but judging purely looks wise I don't really see Liston as the most intimidating.

Of cource it would be different if you were in his presence. But to me Tyson and young Foreman just LOOK the most scary to me.

If he didn't like you or had been drinking, Liston definitely wasn't always nice and polite.
