The first thought being this guy

race certainly played a part in how this got hyped as a new white contender taking on the champion who was yet to earn his respect in larry holmes. Only three fights after his loss and two of them were knockouts by michael spinks and george foreman.
    howard davis(vs jim watt)
    diego corrales(vs floyd)
    jorge gonzalez(vs rid**** bowe)
    tyrell biggs(vs tyson)

And I don't hear his name mentioned among all-time greats. Sure the guy had some skills though. How good was he?
I believe he's the one who beat Aaron Pryor to get on the olympic team.

Although he had a good career, I don't think Mark Breland lived up to what was expected of him. Also, I believe Alex Ramos was a disappointment in terms of what was seen as his potential.

Adrien Broner might be headed to this list because right now he's not nearly as good as he and some of his supporters think he is. He has a lot to prove to live up to his hype.

Panchito Bojado and Ricardo Williams and quite a few others off the top US amateurs circa 2000

Considering the amatuer pedigree, and accomplishments he achieved before becoming a pro, Mark Breland was the first name that popped into my head.

Kind of dissapointing that he didn't quite bring that hype surrounding him once he turned pro.

I would also add that he probably had the wrong management, and wrong mentality for the sport. He admitted that, after his fifth pro fight, he really didn't want to be a fighter no more.Had no business losing to Jim Watt.Personally, the #1 person for this subject would probably be Greg Page.Tremendous Talent, didn't achieve for various reasons.

I really thought he could have been a legend. Top 15 or 20 P4P all-time.

                      Prince Naseem
                      Meldrick Taylor
Oliver McCall (for well documented reasons)

I know these guys had good careers but IMO they never reached the level they could/should have.
