Size WITH skills are certainly a huge advantage, size alone just makes for more noise when you hit the canvas. 'As to the size of todays LtHvy the current champ has height but not much of a body in thickness and his legs aren't much to look at as far as lean hard muscle! I'm not seeing body types like Roy Jones or Ray Leonard, fairly broad shoulders and an even balance of muscle from arms to chest, back and legs!
Sugar Ray was a lean, well muscled athlete and stood the test of time for almost 30 yrs as an amatuer & pro. Unbelivable co-ordination with perfect balance and more boxing/fighting skills than anyone.
I'm not campainging Sugar Ray as a LtHvy I'm just commenting that when he wanted to he could box anyone within a reasonable weight simularity and not give away height and reach, and as for his resume he gives away nothing when it comes to experiences!
I would say that a Roy Jones at 175 would have enough weight to possibly off set Sugars experience but both at 160 would be to Sugar advantage because its closer to his natural weight!
When it comes to Will, no one compares to him thats an intangible that in todays landscape would really bring a good fighter into the "great fighter" catagory. nite all! Ray.
Prime Robinson can box with Prime Moore, Moore has more body volumn thats his size advantage. Most all fighters will give way to Moores expereince but in this case Sugarman equals it and actually surpasses it!
This is my opinion and if you don't agree thats fine, teres no reason to call other members here full of !!!! just disagree and leave it at that.
The reference to Mayweather was the an example of how the word GREAT is over used here! If Mayweather is a GREAT boxer whats Sugar Ray Robinson??
If you think that Andre Ward is capable of winning over Sugarman you really need to put some time into learning techniques and how methods are applied. I like Ward but he doesn't have the skills or the experience to deal with the likes of Sugar!
I'm not going to waste my time answer anyone who quotes my opinions and insults me or anyone else. I didn't challenge anyone elses opinion on just commented on a comment about Moore possibly "stopping" Sugar!
Eeryone has their own opinions but remember that opinions need to based on something and a great reference would be "experiences"! Ray.
You spend most of your time here belittling and insulting people, I'll speak too you as I like.
Prime Robinson is a welterweight, you think a welterweight Robinson is boxing a light heavy Moore ?, or are you saying that Robinson was near his prime at light heavy ?, little confused. Robinson was past it at light heavy and Moore is a step above him at that weight.
If you think that Andre Ward is capable of winning over Sugarman you really need to put some time into learning techniques and how methods are applied.
Could you quote me where I said he beats Robinson please ?, I said he troubles him and if you don't think he does then you should probably take off those rose tinted glasses and watch some Ward again, the man is brilliant.
Maybe he doesn't beat Robinson but he has shown he has the tools to trouble him.
The reference to Mayweather was the an example of how the word GREAT is over used here! If Mayweather is a GREAT boxer whats Sugar Ray Robinson??
It's really not that over used, you could use this logic with just about any great boxer and make them seem not so great.
If Jose Napoles is great what's Ray Robinson ?
If Roberto Duran is great what's Sam Langford ?
If Tony Canzoneri is great what's Ezzard Charles ?.
Just because a certain boxer isn't as great as someone who is widely considered the greatest of all time does not mean that he isn't great, that's just ridiculous.
You said Floyd is considered a great on this forum and then to try and back your opinion that you don't think he's great you brought up a fantasy fight between him and Robinson, you didn't just use it as a reference to the above ridiculous logic. Pick any great boxer at 135 and below and Mayweather gives them problems.
The fact that he thoroughly outboxed him for a vast majority of the fight and was even able to back him at points despite the tremendous size difference makes it as quality of a 'loss' as you can really pick up. I don't know that he would've had much interest in making a title reign out of it - and I don't like his chances against Moore - but winning it in the first place would've been enough to boost his stock even a little higher. Legitimate World titles at 147/160/175 with no inbetween is tremendously impressive, particularly when you're winning the Light Heavyweight title coming in under the Middleweight limit.
