    christ almighty, is he sharp!
The piano player id one of the greatest of all time if you are talking about the first tune its Earl Fatha Hines who was Louis Armstrongs pianist in the 20's and 30's. He is a direct influence on greats like Oscar Peterson and Art Tatum. Louis Armstrong said Hines was his favourite pianist... the other pianist on a later track is blues legend Jimmy Yancey. ------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------- PS. that song played by Hines is based on Waltzing Matilda our favourite folk song downunder. Its off an album recorded during Hines visit to Australia in the 50's or 60's. The guitarist playing the Ragtime/blues peices is Blind Blake, perhaps the best guitar player of all time... of course that is very debateable, but he is a definate contender for guitar GOAT.

thats what I see, it is likeley that a frame or two had to be repaired or cut out and rejoined, there are no boxing films before the 20's that havent suffered that fate. what I see is a combination of a punch that may have hurt Chip just before that left, the fact that Chip is charging headlong, and quickly, as a result it may not have been the hardest blow Chip took but him adding all that extra impetus into the blow, its almost as if Chip knocked himself out...... but I have all 9 rounds of the fight and the combined punishment was quite awesome, and its a wonder Chip got through any of the last 5 rounds, I must admit that I like George Chip as a fighter, a real pitbull type, and like Nelson and Zivic and Greb and jeff Smith, no regard at all for rules. makes for an exciting crowd pleaser.

tomorrow I will finish an experimental video that will visually compare fighters from the early films to moderns, I have added some effects and extra brightness and contrast to make Floyd Mayweather and others look like they are fighting back in Battling Nelsons day and from the 20's, and on same video will be Nelson McFaland and others. Basically I am trying to show the similarities more than the differences between now and then. I gotta say some of it looks cool.. I only wish I could doctor the old timers to appear in modern HD as well. Mayweather can be seen in a brand new light, using the Gatti fight, Gatti looks like he belongs back then.
