I had Tarver winning a close fight, but like I said before he was always going to struggle against Tarver, no matter at what period they fought.

I dont rate Tarver that much, I see him as a poor mans Frankie Liles

        We agree then.

Jones is a very left hand dominant fighter, like Toney is a very right hand dominant fighter. Both of those guys will struggle against opponents who neutralise their favoured punches.

If you go back to the Harding fight you see that Harding leans back and goes into his defensive shell, which effectively neutrailses Jones array of left hooks. He was also quite adept at slipping Jones straight rights
I have to comment on this later because I've only watched highlights of the harding fight. But the comparison doesn't work since Jones beat Tarver.

        Hence Jones struggled with him.
I've already said I don't believe a fight with Tarver is a style deterministic match up. I grant you, It can be determined by Tarver's power and Jones' chin but the point is, the better will win regardless of how much either struggles.

If you look at the Jones-Tarver fights you see the same thing happening. Jones rarely connects with left hooks. He tries to throw the counter left hook over Tarvers right jab, but he never has much success with it.
Everytime he got ready to throw the straight right, Tarver would take a step back and go into his shell, which kept throwing off Jones timing.

        Hence Jones struggled with him
        as above.

So then steroid testing didn't begin in boxing in 2002.

Second...and for the last time...you don't know when Jones did or didn't use steroids.

That's fair enough, which is why you think he was better from 2003. But as I said before the better man would win.

What do you think of Tarver now?

Why would it be ******? Assuming he learns how to beat the test - or already knew - why would he stop? But he would use it for Richard Hall? Not Julio Gonzalez? I don't buy that. Again, we can't pretend to know when people did or didn't use to suit our argument.

I'd agree with the idea that Tarver was better than a past-prime Jones. Tarver at his peak was a pretty solid fighter.

Assuming the testing was like the program Mayweather is submitting to right now. Roy is a smart man, he'd figure it out without too much trouble.

                      ???????
It didn't become the norm across the board until 2002, but as I said before the state of Indiana were ahead of the times and had their own pilot steroid testing scheme

He got busted using roids against Hall and basically got a slap on the wrist from the state of Indiana, who asked him to hand in urine samples from his next two fights. As I said before he clearly slipped a step from the Harding fight to the Harmon fight.

For the record I find it funny that you are so skeptical about this, when its about Benn turning down fights with Jones you are quite happy to accept any thing posters on boxingscene post up.
