For starters I think Holmes kicks his ass. Though its been constantly ridiculed I have to match great fighters up in my head and it holds almost equal weight to resume and titles to me. Holmes had no weaknesses with any type of fighter. He could really box and or fight. He fought almost thirty years and was never without a chance. I may be unfair to Louis because of the change in the game but Holmes had a lot of tough comp and was a Micheal Spinks away from sealing himself as the unquestioned GOAT. Louis has a lot of numbers that make him great but when I compare his skills to the best they dont seem to add up to GOAT for me. I also got Holyfield at 3 which is a little more heart than head because I grew up on him, but not to the verge of insanity.

So you're just going to dismiss the fact Louis has an utterly superior resume, then?

Resume is more important than skills and head to head match ups when ranking a fighters greatness.

Underlined, same can be said for Louis.

                Bolded -

Watch other fights that the Marciano one

Ermmm, yes. That would be 25 defences without losing.

Thats why its all opinion. Dont **** on Holyfield now. LOL. If we want to do numbers then I dont think 48 straight wins is anything to sneeze at. He went threw the fire of the fading greats and shock the new guys. As far as resume he has one of the best of all time. Ive seen more than Marciano. If I was gonna give him a pass on any fight it would be that fight. Like I said he's a great fighter but I dont think he was ahead of his time. As a matter of fact I think a guy that he beat was in Walcott. But Ive always felt the same about "The Brown Bomber".

who they beat is more important than the number of guys they beat. Holmes almost went undefeated in 49 fights, yea, but reality is not even half of those fights were against quality fighters in the division. If you look over Louis' title run in detail, youll see that he defeated a ridiculous amount of top competition over his unbeaten streak.

in fact, the list can be found in this thread.
                    Lee Rampage - No. 10
                    Patsy Perroni - No. 6
                    Natie Brown - No. 10
                    Primo Carnera - No. 4

Jersey Joe Walcott - No. 1
Ezzard Charles - World Champion - LOSS
                    Lee Savold - No. 4
                    Cesar Brion - No. 8
                    Rocky Marciano - No. 3 - LOSS

in other words, 30 quality wins over top contenders.

Holmes doesnt have nearly as much, I dont think he even reaches 20.

                      Ali > Louis

But only because a young Louis was stopped by Schmeling.

Nobody ever whooped a young Ali like that.

                      1. Ali
                      2. Louis
                      3. Marciano
