Well, Micky Rourke would have been ideal when he was younger, and most of the actors these days are too pretty.. Leo DiCaprio is (apparently) a lot tougher than he looks, so maybe he could fit the part..
Have to say, I'd love to see Vinny Jones play Jack Dempsey.. Jones may not be a great actor, but the facial resemblences combined with their identical menace is uncanny..

His choosing to join the army for WWII and seek active combat, and becoming a decorated war hero who when told about being recommended for distinguished service honors for saving the lives of many men at the battle of Guadalcanal Ross said "Tell em to give it to my company. This is no one man show". To his addiction to pain killers after being injured during action, hiding it from his family and friends after being discharged, to him turning himself over for government assistance in kicking his habit and never doing drugs again. This is a movie I would love to see made as The book is probably my favorite boxing book to date.

I would have said Michael Watson as I watched a documentary about him and it was very sad but up lifting at the same time, his fights with Benn and Eubank and his tragic rematch with Eubank, his fight to stay alive, being told he would never walk again, up to him completing the London marathon finishing along side Eubank put a tear in my eye,
but after reading about Barney Ross from Jab5239, I think that would be a great film, gonna give thee book a read, cheers man
