Barney Ross. Raised in poverty after his father was murdered. Friends with some of Chicago's most famous and most infamous people including Jack Ruby and Al Capone. His rise to being the first fighter to hold 3 different belts at the same time and his fights with some of the greatest fighters ever. His choosing to join the army for WWII and seek active combat, and becoming a decorated war hero who when told about being recommended for distinguished service honors for saving the lives of many men at the battle of Guadalcanal Ross said "Tell em to give it to my company. This is no one man show". To his addiction to pain killers after being injured during action, hiding it from his family and friends after being discharged, to him turning himself over for government assistance in kicking his habit and never doing drugs again. This is a movie I would love to see made as The book is probably my favorite boxing book to date.
That seems like a good read.

If you guys are interested the book is simply called "Barney Ross" and it's by Douglas Century. Here is a link where you can buy it cheap.

The obvious answer here is Mike Tyson - that tragedy has everything. A great rise and fall. A public love, and the people turning on him. Infidelity, betrayal, greed, money, prison, etc...

It would make an incredible story, from age 8, until he met Bobby Stewart, to Cus, etc.

That would make an incredible film as long as it was told in it's entirety and truthfully.

A film about Johnny Tapia would contain every scene needed to make a box-office smash.. Mel Gibson could make the ultimate stomach churner out of it..
It's difficult to choose an actor, Robert Carlyle maybe.

Carlos Monzon is another one.. Gary Stretch, Colin Farrell, Antonio Banderas, Jason Statham with a wig? lol.. Nevertheless, Monzon's life and crimes would be a classic.

An up to date 'documetary style' film about Harry Greb would be an idea.. As for the part?.. Well, Micky Rourke would have been ideal when he was younger, and most of the actors these days are too pretty.. Leo DiCaprio is (apparently) a lot tougher than he looks, so maybe he could fit the part..

Have to say, I'd love to see Vinny Jones play Jack Dempsey.. Jones may not be a great actor, but the facial resemblences combined with their identical menace is uncanny..
