Why do I have to get the book? Just spit it out. And while your at it provide the primary sources the book uses to come to this conclusion. Because right now to many primary sources are against you.

So the IBRO emailed me on the matter of Johnson allegedly quitting vs Haynes. Of all the things that they could have used they referenced Adam Pollacks book. They must not think he's a fanboy and has done his research though. By the way Z, it was Henry Hascup who occasionally posts here that sent it. Another noteworthy historian.

Another IBRO member Dr. Kelly Nicholson also knows nothing of Johnson quitting from the email he sent. Odd no mention of quitting from a boxing history organization that does a ton of research.

The first guy sounds like a lazy reply on his part.

The second guy seems to have answered in honest ignorance.

IBRO not so impressive; not much help.

Maybe he just didn't need to look any further as he already know? I seriously doubt Henry is lazy.

Role as boxing and sports historian Known as 'the uncrowned king of sports information', sports writers from all over the world call Hascup at his home in Lodi, New Jersey, to verify sports information as factual. [6] A trivia expert of all sports, Hascup's collection of rare boxing books, magazines, gloves and memorabilia goes back hundreds of years, to the 1800's. His collection includes over 10,000 sports magazines and 2000 sports books. [7] It provides an invaluable resource when the time comes to research a fighter before: presenting an award or recognition; writing a biography talking about a fighter's accomplishments and achievements in the ring; and most importantly-at the required moment when Hascup's presence is needed to deliver a departed boxer's eulogy.

                More from the IBRO.

                Hi Joey
I did a newspaper archive search and the only story I could find was from May 30 from the Chicago Tribune where Johnson stated he was in poor condition and wanted a rematch. Johnson also claimed he only weighed 154 lbs (if I remember correctly, one of his biographies stated he was basically starving at this point in his career).
The May 30 story mentioned that the police advised the referee to halt the fight in the sixth round because Johnson was constantly holding.

McGrian is a " well known boxing historian ", you say?!

This could be the wildest claim you have made! No boxing historian rates Brittish Mickey Walker in the top 40 heavyweights of all time, but he did! This tell serious boxing scirbes / histrians he does not know what he is taliking about.

                  I post where I wish.

As stated Papa Jack and Unforgivable Blackess write Johnson quit. Deal with it.

I told you to contact the writers, but I can see you don't seem to listen very well.

Now you can press on quouting me and others form ESB posts that are 10+ years old.

I know some of these guys, and they are seasoned boxing historians unlike McGrian who you claimed was an excellent boxing historian.

Pollack is an IBRO brethren. Sure they like him. He is also a fan boy of Jonhson's.

I posted three sources. Ward, Roberts and AI on Johnson quitting ( his first of a few quit jobs ). vs. Haynes.

When you get the Book Unforgivable Blackness, you will learn more.

Until then understand that Johnson does not fit this thread's title.

There is no source quoted by Ward in Unforgivable Blackness to confirm Johnson quit.
The Chicago Tribune is the only newspaper quoted on the fight ,and this is what it said.May 6th1899.
" The long rangy colored man, looking something like Bob Fitzsimmons, showed up well at the start, but weakened at the steady and ponderous attack of Klon***e."Chapter 1.Page 28
That is the only newspaper source Ward quotes.
                      I have the book.

Likewise Roberts cites no sources for his statements,I know this because I also have his book.
