Comparing Listons resume with Rocky Marciano

    Marciano: 49-0

Joe Louis (old and past it was on a 9-0 win streak, retired after this 212 lbs Marciano 184 and green)
    Walcott x2 (196 lbs and 198 lbs - to Marciano's 185)
Charles x2 (185 lbs and 191 lbs to Marcianos 187)
Moore (both 188 lbs) (Moore beat Nino Valdez in his prime)
    Rex Layne
    La starza

Liston 50-4 (Liston lost when green, in his prime and at the end of his career)

    Clevland Williams x2
Nino Valdez Ranked#2 (second last fight of his career - lost 10 times in the last 5 years, lost his fight prior to fighting Liston. retired one fight later)
    Mike Dejohn Ranked #10
    Roy Harris Ranked #7
    Zora Folley Ranked #1
Eddie Machen Ranked #5 (196 lbs to Listons 211)
    Floyd Patterson #1 x2 (186 lbs)

I threw a few numbers in there that often get used to discredit one fighter and not the other.

Let's discuss this. I personally have no idea how Liston is even comparable in resume but let's hear what people have to say. In the other threads discussing greatness for some reason people pick Marciano as overrated and not great. Literally makes 0 sense at all. Is he not scary enough?

If people are just going to argue for the sake of arguing this is getting pretty redundant. It actually makes no sense. What did Liston do??

So from your listings it looks like vs fighters in their prime Marciano has Rex Layne and LaStarza who most would say he should be 1-1 with.

Far from an ATG career there.

Marciano was 30 years old Charles was 33. he was ranked number 1 when Marciano faced him.

Marciano had 9 amateur fights I can't stress this enough. he is learning how to box in the pros and has barely any experience at all compared to charles.

So if a ****ty fighter is in their prime this means more?

Well firstly no one said they were.

Secondly, I'd say they're all about the same level.

yeah look at williams resume. he's a bum. he fought total bums and got a string of wins then got plastered by satterfield and anyone with a pulse his entire career. never put up a fight against anyone with a pulse.

What he does have though, is big muscles. and that looks good on TV.

Rex Layne at least knocked out Satterfield

Rex Layne before Marciano crushed him had wins over Charles, Satterfield and Walcott. he was a much better fighter than Williams. Williams was catching draws with Eddie Machen

I just wanna say I put very little weight in having an undefeated resume. it's the last of Marciano's achievements that I actually value. However, among this 49-0 is a whole slew of fighters that all fought everyone for over a decade. Marciano should not be undefeated but he is. He was a special fighter because of his temperament and work ethic. They all fought eachother multiple times and beat eachother. All of them lost to Marciano though. sooner or later people need to wake up.

I am a strong believer in the hardest working man is the best man at the very end of the day. So to me it makes sense. All the other factors are superficial.

Marciano would have knocked Liston out. If there was a poll Marciano loses on the polls 10-1, the reality of the bout though - Marciano knocks him out in a barn burner that lasts about 6-8 rounds. It ends sooner than against Charles because Liston won't run.

Charles had nearly100 fights on his clock, and had lost 2 of his 4 fights,he had been a pro for 14 years,he was clearly past his prime.
