IBHOF - The class of 2025! Discuss

    Manny Pacquiao
    Vinny Pazienza
    Michael Nunn
    Rodrigo Valdez

    Manny is a no brainer.
I fought for years for Vinny Paz and Rodrigo Valdez.

I'm championing still for Marlon Starling, Jerry Quarry, Earnie Shavers and others.

Not as interested in Cat Davis as I am in Teofilo Stevenson (a couple of issues there).

It's all about where and how you draw the imaginary line, people. And since it's been drawn (by others) at the Arturo Gatti and James Toney level; we have some work to do in the years ahead.

The moving line of "old timers" is a more lengthy discussion.

Every year at the inductions I discuss the voters who don't show up with the ones who do.

Mostly, I'm happy with the class of 2025.

    Manny's official statement was awesome:

“This certainly is a wonderful Christmas gift. Throughout my career, as a professional fighter and a public servant, it has been my goal to bring honor to my country, the Philippines, and my fellow Filipinos around the world,” Pacquiao said. “Today, I am humbled knowing that in June, I will receive boxing’s highest honor, joining our national hero, Flash Elorde, as well as my trainer and friend Freddie Roach.”

I'm good with this years class, but it's a crime Quarry, Shavers and Starling are not in yet.

Wow, we differ greatly on HOF worthy fighters. Nothing wrong with that. I don’t think Quarry, Shavers, or Starling had a HOF worthy career.

IMO Paz and Nunn lower the bar. But why not?

If yes to the above then I say Jerry Quarry is a no brainer.

Starling is a tough call. No to Shavers.

When your best memory is knocking down the champion, and losing the fight, that just isn't enough for the HOF.

I can't think of another Shavers' WOW moment.

P.S. I can't think of a single WOW moment for Michael Nunn. Right from the start I saw him as a place holder.

Surely at some point there would be too much watering down. I guess that is the line being talked about.

            - - Manny in with the weakest class of all: an obvious steroid user, a ******* dealer, and a somewhat Argentine contender most noted for giving Monzon his two hardest fights at the end of Monzon's storied era and then mopping up the few remaining remnants of Monzon's era before Marv took over.

That would've been another interesting fight just outside the window of possibility, but alas, all the hands had already been played.

Nunn actually ended up a serious drug dealer.

Damn I forgot that. Good thing he didn't get caught using PEDS or g-ambling, he might have been ruled ineligible. But he JUST sold hard drugs. LMAO

                Re Valdez

It now gives Monzon one more HOFer on his defenses' list.

I wonder which fighter has the most HOF defenses?

Probably Ali, Louis or Robinson. My first thought was Greb, but I'm not sure he had all his hall of famers as defenses.

                    - - Sam Langford with the most HOFer opponents, but fighters like Wills and Jeanette fought Sam and each other so often, have to think in that era of N/Ds the majority were really exhibitions to move to the next boxing locale for more lucre$$$
