No he's not. There was never any demand for either of those fights to be made. Bobicks best win was probably an old Chuck Wepner who had lost to Ali 18 months before. Both Ali and Holmes had bigger fish to fry and Bobick was stopped whenever he stepped up in competition. Amateur success does not translate to professional success.

Quarry for me. He was never going to beat Ali but his losses to Frazier would have been more competitive had he listened to his corner. That said, if he had listened to his corner in the Shavers fight, the result might have been different. After hurting Shavers his corner was sreaming at him to back off and be cautious but that wasn't in Jerry's playbook.

Okay, that makes sense. What's your view of tommy morrison jab?
watch this and you kinda think it is definately morrison who is the greatest great white hope.
although I must say I personally suspect he was on peds. just the build looks it, what a great guy he was though!

Yeah, Coetzee was OK. Nowhere near as good as Quarry, but that's not an indictment. Didn't have Cooney's punch but I think Coetzee had the better career. I toyed with Bonevena and Chuvalo but both were over-the-hill in the '70s. Otherwise Chuvalo was a very good fighter.

Tommy Morrison had some talent, but he didn't break into fighting 10 rounders until 1991 so he doesn't really fit the parameters.

Yes you are right there I think. Could I just change the direction of this thread and discuss more the possible reasons why there were so few white heavyweights during the whole 70's and 80's.
I don't want lazy racist ideas but can anyone put forward any possible reasons why there were so few white quality men in the heavyweight division during those two deacdes?
Considering how many white men there were after 2000. What do you think explains this strange situation as I genuinely wonder and don't know. It must have something to do with culture but that is all I can guess.
One arguement is simly that boxing gyms tend to be in inner city black areas and poor white men live more rural so there are less boxing clubs. Seems a p!ss poor explanation and only really applies to the usa.

Indeed. My bad, this aging man's memory was erroneously placing Morrison's prime around the late 80s.

                    - - U in BarneyBigBoys then and now don't know squat. Bobick was one of the few Olympic heroes of them days and was Ring rated well before Tubby Lar who was still skinny.

Unfortunately he entered into Joe Frazier's training and lost his natural style.

Lmao....none of this matters. There still never any demand for either fight to be made, and Bobbick was stopped whenever he stepped up against elite competition. I'm sorry this hurts your feelings, but this is the hard truth. Prove me wrong.
