    Law and order

Some highlights of Leonard’s career, the summer of 1895:

Aug 19: “Police stopped the fight in the 2nd round, when it turned to a slugging match.”
Aug 20: “Inspector Cortright broke up the fight and arrested both men.”

Aug 22: “In the fourth round there was some hitting in the clinches and police interfered, stopping the match.”
Sept 23: “A lively row broke up, causing the police to interfer and stop the contest.”

Are you speaking of Mike Leonard?

Has a NC with George Dixon on August 19th 1895 and a NC with Charles Gehring on September 23rd

The August 20th fight (Sweigert) was stopped but called a PTS loss for Leonard.

There is no Boxrec mention of the August 22nd fight (Payne) being stopped.

Right. The August dates should have been Aug 17, 19 (against legendary George Dixon), and 20.

About the Sweigert bout, boxrec says “Leonard was to stop Sweigert or forfeit $25. In the fourth round there was some hitting in the clinches and police interfered, stopping the match. The referee gave the victory to Sweigert on account that Leonard had failed to stop his man according to contract.”

Dixon and Gehring go down as “no contest” as police interferred.
