After watching "The Fighter", I watched the real Mickey Ward vs Shea Neary Fight, and I gotta say, Wahlberg really does the knockout performed by Ward quite well. I've been looking for Ward-Mungin, but I haven't been able to find much information on it.

Kessler vs froch

round 1 froch( extremely close)

not much in this round, kessler landed some rights to
the body and scored with the jab a little, froch however
scored with a left hook, cuffing right hand and was
a little more active, although this could easily be called even.

Round 2 kessler
not much in this round either, kessler was touching
froch upstairs and downstairs whilst froch was a little inactive
and waiting, although he did seem to score at the end a little
, both rounds 1 & 2 were pick em rounds so i split the difference
and give them one each, as i do feel froch may just! Of edged
round 1 on the harder punches

round 3 froch

froch started well with the jab but let kessler come on mid
round as kessler was able to touch him to the body, although
toward the end froch put that left hook right hand together
and came alive down the stretch to score with the more solid
punches to punctuate the round imo

round 4 froch
not much in the round early but mid round froch landed
a solid right hand and then a lead uppercut that landed clean
, he also scored the jab toward the end, kessler came back a little
but a froch round for me.

Round 5 froch
clearest round of the fight to score, froch landed a serious
of solid punches on kessler, froch landed those long reaching looping
shots

round 6 kessler (very close)

this was hard to score because kessler was more aggressive
and consistent but also got caught by some solid shots himself,
he started the round landing the jab and he scored a good
combo to the stomach then landed a nice left hook on froch
, but toward the end he was getting caught with a few solid shots
from froch whilst applying that pressure, although he did trap
froch on the ropes and scored another body attack, could of
gone either way but i like kessler's consistency & aggression, oh
kessler landed a nice right hand on froch this round to.

much better round for kessler as he seemed to zero on better
with his accuracy, he was more active and scored a combo early
where he went downstairs and brought a right hand over the
top, he also landed a short inside left hook after that, kessler
caught froch again toward the end as he closed out the round
better and nailed carl when he left himself off balance

not much in the round early, although kessler did land a nice
counter right hand but froch seemed to score with the jab throughout
the middle portion of the round, however kessler nailed him
with another counter right hand that hurt him, kessler then
pinned him against the ropes and put his punches together

round 9 froch

better round for froch as he landed the jab and scored
with an uppercut early, toward the end he was nailing kessler
with his wild **** that comes out out of left field

round 10 froch

both answered each others attacked this round but froch
managed to edge infront by landing the more solid
cleaner punches, he also got the best of kessler in the exchanges imo.

Round 11 kessler (tough round to score)

kessler started well letting his hands go in combination
as he went downstairs with the combo then brought it back
up top, he was also consistent the whole round imo, froch
nailed him mid round but he also nailed froch with the biggest
punch of the round, a right hand, froch came back toward the
end but i liked kessler's consistency over the round, he sustained
his attack more imo.

Round 12 kessler (very hard to score)
this round could of gone either way but i think what tipped
it was that kessler landed more solid punches on froch that
were also harder punches imo, he also closed the round out
right toward the end, froch closed it out to but what was more
pivotal for me was that kessler closed it out with like 10 seconds
to go, froch did his best work 20 seconds before that.


I had it a draw but given the fact i made a note beside each of
the 3 rounds kessler won on my card that each of those rounds were extremely
hard to score and could of gone either way and i only gave froch the benefit of the
doubt in one round (round 1), then i guess you could say i was a little
bit kinder to kessler and that, that should be a sign that froch might have
slightly edged it, it was a very close fight to score though so maybe a draw was
a fair reflection.

I felt kessler could of had more success if had he put more sustained pressure
on froch, froch is a guy that cant fight aswell going backward but he can cope to
a degree, particularly when you are not applying consistent sustained pressure, kessler
was closing distance methodically imo, only in a few rounds did he really fight the kinda
fight im talking about and keep the pressure on froch, he won those rounds clearer to
, now the reason i feel it would of benefited kessler more to put more sustained
pressure on froch is because froch gets wide when pressure and does not have good
technique, he wings punches when pressure is put on him and leaves his chin out, that is why keeping the pressure on him would of worked wonders imo. Also i think maybe froch's
workrate was so poor because! He was backed up, he knew if he let hands go boxing
off the backfoot that he would leave himself more exposed because he does not trust his
technique, therefore he played it safe and tried to pick his spots more although it worked
against him as he was too inactive a lot of the time.


Froch for his part should of been trying to back kessler up and take advantage of him backing
up straight and followed him with those long looping shots, kessler did a better job
of not going back straight but he still did it occasionally and paid for it when froch
threw his wild long loopey punches.

pipino cuevas vs angel espada 1&2

in the first fight, cuevas just manhandled espada, destroying him with his vaunted left hook in the 2nd round and winning the wba 147 title in december, 1976. In the rematch, 11 months later, cuevas once again dropped espada in the second round. This time, espada survived the round and spent the next 9 rounds retreating, while cuevas bombarded him with power shot after power shot. Before the beginning of the 12th, espada collapsed while attempting to get of his stool. He was never the same after these brutal beatings.

Carlos zarate vs alphonso zamora 4/23/77

zarate was the wbc 118 pound champion and zamora the wba 118 champ, yet this for some strange reason was a non-title 10 round fight!!!!! The original fan man occurred in this fight. A minute into round one, a man in a tank top and underwear jumped into the ring. Within seconds, mexican police jumped him and whisked him away. Then for the next two minutes of the fight, zarate and zamora engaged in a brutal toe-toe exchange. The second round saw similar action. Zarate, in the third, finally hurt and decked zamora. Zarate had incredible power in both hands and it was incredibly foolish for zamora to engage in exchanges with him. Finally, in the fourth, after being dropped two more times, zamora fell face first and was counted out!!!!!!

Kessler vs Froch

Round 1 Froch( extremely close)

Not much in this round, Kessler landed some rights to
the body and scored with the jab a little, Froch however

MAY 8, 1976. WBC 135 TITLE FIGHT. ESTEBAN DEJESUS VS GUTS SUZUKI

DEJESUS TOTALLY DOMINATED THIS FIGHT. HE walked down guts the entire fight and hit him seemingly at will with combos all NIGHT LONG. Dejesus, who at this point was the only man to HAVE DEFEATED ROBERTO DURAN, totally outclassed SUZUKI, who WAS IN RETREAT the entire FIGHT. A 15 round total domination by the Puerto Rican warrior!!!!!!

Last night i watched Toney vs McCallum 1, wish id scored it for the scorecard thread but forgot too GREAT fight regardless, skills in offenese, defence, jabbing, countering, movement, combination punching, the works. A Class boxing.

Also watched Toney vs Holyfield, Kevin Mitchell vs Carl Johanson, John Murray vs Lee McAllister and then this morning i downloaded a fight from here - Edgar Lopez vs Felix Rivera - CHECK THAT ***** OUT!!!

penalosa vs morel

round 1 morel (kind)
both guys did so little it was hard to split them,the
punches they did throw seem to miss

round 2 penalosa

penalosa edged this on his right hook and body work imo,he
also closed better

round 3 penalosa

morel started well nailing penalosa on the ropes but penalosa fought his way back
into the round and did most of the work for the rest of the round as morel switched
off, penalosa landed straight lefts to head and body

round 4 morel

tough round to score as i had penalosa just infront but morel closed better and
probably landed the best punches of the round so im gonna go for morel

round 5 morel

simply more active, penalosa did very little this round.

Round 6 penalosa
penalosa landed the best punch of the fight a straight left he then landed another
no long after that down the stretch he penaolsa scored a right hook to.

Round 7 penalosa
close round that was on the table but penalosa won it down the stretch as he got
more aggressive

round 8 penalosa

this round was close but again penalosa picked up and morel did not stay with him
down the stretch, penalosa also landed hard to the body this round

round 9 penalosa

penalosa aggression took over a round which was up for grabs.

Round 10 penalosa

penalosa more active landing the harder punches and taking this round on his
aggression body work is grinding morel down to imo

round 11 penalosa

penalosa overwhelming morel with his aggression and ****ing him to the body with
hard shots

round 12 penalosa

there were a few rounds (7+8+9) that were close and up for
grabs but i felt penalosa did more down the stretch of those
rounds to punctuate them as penalosa rounds, penalosa would
show willing to close out the round and morel would not stay
with him and when the rounds are up for grabs you gotta close
them out as best you can.

I reckon some might have scored this fight closer but i dont see morel winning many
other rounds unless you were being kind to him,penalose definitely deserved
the decision and was robbed as far as im concerned.

Morel fought most of the fight moving away and missing most of the punches he
threw whilst getting hit with hard clean punches by penalosa,particularly down the
stretch where penalose was dominating the fight with his aggression and being more
active and landing the harder shots. The beginning of the fight was close but penalosa
closed this fight out and should of won.

concepcion vs mario santiago

round 1 concepcion

close round as santiago dictated the pace of the round but
was not that effective with his jabbing, concepcion landed
a right hand on him mid round then toward the end he closed
the round out better by landing a series of right hands

round 2 concepcion

santiago did a little better early in the round landing the jab
but concepcion took over with his hard right hands he also
landed solid to the body at one point

round 3 santiago (kind)

tough round to score but i think santiago was a little more
consistent altthough i could of scored this round for concepcion to because
concepcion did land the harder shots albeit he was a little less
active.

Round 4 concepcion

another tough round to score because whilst santiago was active early
he was not landing anything,most of what he threw was blocked, concepcion
did not do a lot either but landed the best punch of the round a hard counter
right, santiago came back toward the end and could of taken it but seeing as i gave
him the benefit of the doubt in the last round im going with concepcion here. I
thought either round 3 & 4 could of swung either way.

Round 5 santiago

much better round for santiago as he showed a better defence against concepcion's
right hands and he managed to back concepcion which i felt was key to him having
more success.

Round 6 concepcion 10/8

santiago let concepcion back him again this round and its no coincidence that concepcion
had a good round and nailed him with a series of right hands one of those
right hands dropped him

round 7 santiago

santiago backed concepcion and was more consistent and dictated the round imo

round 8 concepcion

santiago dictated the pace of the round but did not do much effective landing.
I felt concepcion took the round on his harder punches that he come alive with mid
round

round 9 concepcion

concepcion switched off down the stretch but i still felt he landed the harder cleaner
shots over the coarse of the round could of swung to santiago i guess.

Round 10 santiago

excellent round by santiago as he backed concepcion
up and the nailed him on the ropes, santiago gave up
the distance laid inside and tried to hammer concepcion, concepcion fought back
mid round but santiago came back toward the end to continue dominating the round

if only santiago had tried to back concepcion up the whole fight i reckon he would of
won, concepcion's counter right hand was keeping him in this fight as he was landing
it hard,clean and often throughout the fight, that said he only seemed to have major
success with it when he was in centre ring or backing santiago up when santiago
backed him up he was not effective with it.

I do feel concepcion did enough to win though mainly based on the fact he landed
the harder punches, santiago was busy and dictated the pace but a lot of his jabs
either missed or were blocked and he was throwing punches that had very little on
them.

donaire vs manuel vargas

round 1 donaire

donaire pushing vargas back behind the jab and landing
counter rights and nice solid left hand,rabbit caught in the
headlights springs to mind for vargas.

Round 2 donaire
vargas landed a good right hand but donaire answered that
with an even harder right hand and controlled the rest of the
round

round 3 donaire started landing the right hand against then
he opened up with an impressive combo that dropped vargas
who was flat on his back and could not beat the count.

Donaire used his height & reach as he backed vargas up behind the jab,
vargas was never going to get into this fight backing up, not against a guy
that maintains distance and utilizes that reach by staying disciplined behind the jab.
Vargas backing up was relying on counters but those counters were not there because
donaire did not leave him anything to counter, he worked his way in behind
the jab and kept it long where the gap between them favoured the rangy fighter
which was donaire.

Donaire looks the way he always looks, fast throwing good counter punches, however
im not sure how much his inside game has improved if at all.

a must see fight!!!!!! An all out war. In the 4th, avelar dropped vazquez with a right cross. Avelar, sensing the finish, forgot about defense and was dropped by a lethal right hand by vazquez. Both men through caution to the wind for the remainder of the round, one of the greatest rounds in 118 pound history. For the next four rounds, each fighter hit each other with power punch after power punch when finally, in the 8th, vazquez was completely put on his feet and the referee wisely stopped the fight. A never talked about classic!!!!!!

Thanks for the correction, TBear, it was the 5th. One of the greatest rounds in 118 pound history.
