Close competitive round but Lane just
about landed the cleaner work,Tucker
caught Lane with a counter right a couple
of times in the round but not much on it
Round 2 Lane
Lane pinned Tucker on the ropes and let his
combos go, he also went to the body when he has
Tucker there, Tucker came back a little at the end
but too late imo
Round 3 Tucker (kind)
I felt Tucker did some effect work early in the round
and got through Lane's defense a couple of times toward
the end of the round most notably with a nice right hand
,Lane did land the best punch of the round though, a nice
clean uppercut.
Round 4 Tucker
Exciting round where Lane landed on Tucker and managed to
hurt him, Lane stepped on the gas and let some combos go but
aside from that i felt he let Tucker take over the round and
outpunch him to take the round
Round 5 Lane
Tucker not as active this round as Lane nailed him with
uppercuts up the middle and started to do what he is good
at, stepping to the side after throwing
a punch and mounting another attack
Round 6 Lane
Pace slowed a little but Lane still countered with the cleaner
punches imo, Lane also landed some nice hooks to the body
Round 7 Lane
Lane landed a few left hooks when in close and a chopping
right that knocked Tucker's mouth peice out, toward the end
Lane was nailing him on the ropes and looked as though he
might force a stoppage
Round 8 Lane
Lane is exciting to watch and his positive are he has good speed and is a combination
puncher he can fight inside he can go to the body effectively he is very adept at
stepping off the the side after he throws a combo so he cant mount another combo
from another angle.
Negatives, he pulls straight back in line when attacked, drops his hands when he
is out of the range and sometimes when pulling out. Exciting to watch and has talent
but i fear his defensive liability's will catch up to him.
Not much to choose from at all as neither man
landed much, Porter just edged it for me as he
outhussled Jordan a bit.
Round 2 Porter
Porter forced Jordan backwards and put the pressure on
him going to the body when inside he also landed a solid
right hand but he seemed to stay in close too long and get
hit with a right hook that seem to hurt him it made him
back up anyway not enough to lose the round though imo
Round 3 Porter
Slight edge to Porter as landed to the body and scored with a
right toward the end, again not much in the round in terms
of scoring
Round 4 Porter
Good body work by Porter as he stayed in tight and put
the pressure on Jordan mid round
Round 5 Porter
Porter was not doing much for most of the round and that
was okay because Jordan was not landing but
right at the end Porter came alive a bit and closed better imo
Round 6 Jordan
Porter landed a good left hook early that rocked Porter but
Porter himself got nailed again with the right when inside and
Jordan then put the pressure on him and closed better imo.
Round 7 Jordan (kind)
Jordan was a little more consistent this round but he did
still get counterd with some good shots from Porter
Round 8 Porter
Round 9 Porter 10/8
Porter was more active and landed a few combos this round
Jordan had a point taken for allegedly spitting out the
mouth piece
Round 10 Porter
Arguably Porter's best round
A nightmare style match up for the shorter Shawn Porter, a tall left hander. Porter
did not seem to know whether to stay intight after working his way in there
or whether to keep it at long range and use lateral movement to offset Jordan and
attack of the angles his movement creates. Teddy Atlas criticized Porter not for
staying in close and his corner also seemed to be favouring that he stay in there once he
has worked his way inside, however twice throughougt the fight Porter got caught
with solid right hooks when he stayed in there too long, both times he backed up after
getting caught so i dont blame Porter for not wanting to stay inclose, what i blame
Porter for is that when he got inclose he should of got his combo off then stepped across
and mounted another attack instead of staying infront of Jordan, that way i dont think
he gets hit inclose with that right hook. The irony
is, is that Atlas and his corner seemed to be telling him to stay in close but Porter
had his best two round of the fight 9+10 when he kept it long and used angles, it
was as though his corner had been confusing him telling him to stay in close and that
he did not know what to do for the best, i reckon he got his rythm going late in the
fight because he settled into what was most effective for him, which was not laying inside
giving the opponent a chance to catch him.
Porter could of fought inside but only if he steps off the line after punching and attacks
from another angles, that way he would be safe and not catch receipts like that right
hook.
Jordan is not a good fighter who knows how to use his jab properly to maximize
he does not have the footwork and snap on the jab to make it a big
factor against the shorter man, plus he is not a good counter
puncher who can catch you coming in so making him come foward is not a bad game
plan, provided you use lateral movement and attack off angles.
Watched the rematch between Jose napoles and Billy Backus. Despite being cut 30 seconds into the fight, Napoles quickly regains control and for 8 rounds, totally dominates Backus, closing his eye and causing the ref to stop the fight in the 8th, resulting in Mantequilla regaining the world 147 pound title.

Watched two classic 147 pound title fights. First, I saw the 1978 war between Pipino Cuevas and Harold Weston. When Weston boxed, he gave Cuevas hell. Unfortunately, he went toe - toe most of the fight and suffered a TKO, which caused the fight to be stopped in the 9th.
The next classic 147 pound title fight was the 1990 Maurice Blocker-Marlon Starling fight. A 12 round war that I had scored a draw. Blocker won by majority decision, and Starling's stellar career was over.
Tonight I had time to watch Manuel Medina vs. Edward "Peewee" Parker and Genaro Hernandez vs. Rudolfo Gonzalez both from the same card in 1990. Both looked good and it made me realize how underappreciated they both were(and are).

Saw for the first time in 30 years the first Saad Muhammad-Conteh fight. The first 9 rounds, Conteh made Saad miss alot and was slightly ahead. Saad swept the 10th round on, dropping Conteh twice in the 14th and battering him in the 15th to win a unanimous decision. Conteh was a tremendous defensive fighter who didn't throw enough punches in this fight.
Second fight I saw last night was the 1984 WBA Jr Middleweight title fight between Mike McCallum and Sean Mannion. McCallum did it all: great jab, excellent right hand and left hook, and one of the greatest body punchers in the history of the sport. Can outbox you or outslug you. It is a shame he never got to fight Leonard, hagler, hearns or Duran. In this fight he totally outclassed the game Mannion, winning his first of three world titles.
