So is anybody knowledgeable enough. . .

So is anybody knowledgeable enough to go through the IBHOF (Modern) and pick out all the non-champions who made the cut?

I can think of only one: Billy Miske.

P.S. Black fighters who won Negro Championships should be considered champions.

I take it, you mean the Old Timers group - since that is were Miske is listed?

In that group quite a few non-champions have been inducted:

    Eddie Booker
    George (KO) Chaney
    Joe Choynski
    Mike Gibbons
    Tommy Gibbons
    Leo Houck
    Jack Kilrain
    Packey MacFarland
    Charley Mitchell
    Pedro Montanez
    Billy Petrolle
    Wesley Ramey
    Dave Shade
    Tom Sharkey
    Young Stribling
    Sid Terris

Several others may or may not belong on the list... depending on how you feel about the title claims of guys such as Jim Driscoll, Len Harvey, Les Darcy, Jeff Smith, Memphis Pal Moore and Charles Ledoux.

      Nicely done. Some deep knowledge.

So with the phetha of titles available, since the 1980s, do you think there would be even one name in the modern section? Maybe a few 1950s names, maybe even the 60s. But I would bet we can't find a single non-champion inducted post 1985. What's you think?

      Thanks for reply.

Not nearly as many non-champions in the Modern group:

        Jimmy Bivins
        Charley Burley
        Billy Graham
        Cocoa Kid
        Lazlo Papp
        Holeman Williams

Papp's last fight was in 1964 - and I don't believe a more recent non-champion has been inducted.

As you say, with the ridiculous number of "world" titles these days, it's difficult to imagine another non-champion being inducted anytime soon in the Modern group.

As for the Old Timer group... I suppose it's not completely out of the question, that they one day may pick a more recent non-champion than Papp. Someone like Benny Briscoe, maybe... who knows?

Maybe, but there a few undeserving Champions on the list...Like Gatti for instance. I think there are lots of politics in the less obvious choices.

Fun thread. I just now observed it. Needless to say, More "Championships" available to win = Less IBHOF worthy Non "Champion" contenders, lol.
Today we live in the "Everybody gets a trophy era".

You look at those non-champs in the hall (and there are plenty more who are worthy), and you laugh imagining how easily they would snag a WB.... title today.

                  - - Derek Chisora probably the densest resume of modern heavies win/lose/draw...
