To me, that reeks of hindsight bias. It seems that it was a foregone conclusion that Tyson would blow out Spinks now that we look back at it. It seems like Spinks was scared of Tyson, but no one was saying that prior to the fight. No one predicted a 1st round blow out, in fact, many thought that Spinks would really test Tyson. It wasn't until after the 1st round destruction that everyone says that Spinks was scared and that he had no chance.

Michael Spinks was scared on June 27, 1988

In after sight it did not take that much foresight to know that what Spinks did best was not going to work against Tyson. Spinks did not really know how to us a reach advantage. He liked to pivot in close.

I thought the CW was that they had to talk Spinks out of the dressing room which delayed the start of the fight. Maybe it was just post fight gossip.

In any case, Lewis did not do any favor to his fighter with that shìtWillie Pep 229 likes this.

Spinks said he wasent afraid of Tyson’s power in the locker room. He should have been scared, stayed well away the first couple rounds as best he could. My Dad thought Spinks had a chance to box Tyson, he beat Larry Holmes after all. Truth is it’s hard to really analyze a minute and a half and make assumptions or hypotheticals on how things could go differently.
