Yeah but there is also parrying and deflecting that requires you to keep your hand up and thats more so what i was refering to joes ability to just push punches to the side with great accuracy and speed

Norton, Witherspoon and Williams were all fights that could have gone against a prime Holmes. Prime Louis is 10x better than any of them.

Larry would have his moments, he was a great fighter. But Louis would catch him much the way Snipes did, but he would finish him. Louis by late stoppage.

he wouldn't do that to Holmes. Norton was one of the best at doing that and he still lost. Norton BEAT Ali doing that.

The difference being that one was the BEST version of Norton, the other was at the tail end of his career.

Someone mentioned the right hand Holmes was vulnerable to. Louis' right hand wasn't the same type of right hand that Holmes was vulnerable to. It wasn't an overhand right. Guys like Shavers and Tyson would dip to the body then throw it up top and catch opponent's with their guard down. Holmes was particularly bad with this because his left hand was almost always down.

Louis didn't really keep his hands to high either as he was vulnerable to certain punches as well. I can't see him avoiding Holmes jab all night.

On top of that, Louis had a great long career with his 25 defenses, but other than that his competition wasn't even as good as an older Norton.

Wallcott was great, but he took Louis to school and got robbed. Even if you don't consider it a robbery, Wallcotts chin was a problem much like Nortons against big punchers.

This would've been a very interesting fight, Holmes' jab and range would've given Louis a lot of troubles, Holmes kinda had the same flaw that Louis had though, he brought his left hand back in low sometimes and left himself open to right hands over the top which could really work against him with a great timer like Louis but Holmes has shown he has a great chin, he can be hurt though and Louis is one of the best finishers in history.

I think this fight either ends by Louis by knockout or Holmes by decision.

Joe Louis would destroy Larry Holmes by the mid rounds.

Larry Holmes is bigger and better than Billy Conn!
back to the old line "he is big " etc etc etc which is bulls*it, Michael Spinks who weighed 175lbs easily beat Holmes, out-jabbing and out-fighting him over 30rds with their 1st fight being an easy victory for the much smaller Spinks.. Joe Louis would behead Holmes... Holmes struggled throughout his career with a number of opponents and was very lucky to get the nod in the majority of fights, Williams, Bonecrusher (1), Witherspoon, Norton, was all very fortunate victorys for Holmes, he was also rocked very badly in his fights with Arrington, Snipes, Shavers, Bey and Berbick... Louis would have no trouble knocking out Holmes

Actually Michael Spinks said so himself in a SI article that he always walked around at over 200 lbs at 9% body fat.

yeah 199 and 205 for the holmes fights according to boxing rec

still weighted a decent amount less then holmes. though im not sure how easily he won with both going 15 the first being unamious and the second split.

either way though louis would destroy holmes
