Mohammad Ali incorrectly showing how to throw punches

Watch this video at 4:02 and you will see Ali's 1 ,2 punches coming from his chest, and not from his chin!
It's really surprising and kina looks very amateurish the way he throws his punches.

I used to think Tyson would have beaten Ali in a fight, then I changed my mind and thought Ali would have beaten him in the last 12 months or so,
Now after seeing this footage, I'm thinking Tyson would have tagged him over the top all night seeing where Ali's punches start from.

Ali always fought with virtually no guard from the outside, he was never what one would call a fundamentally sound fighter. He was attempting to imitate Ray Robinson's style (although I would contend he never really attained this as they were fairly stylistically different). The flaws were many: hands at the waist, steps backward to get away from punches, throws mostly all straight punches, takes too many hits (later career) - his success was largely a credit to his speed, natural talent, ring generalship, and toughness.

he had one hell of a chin, but the way he moved his head back to avoid punches wasn't the best.

It didn't really affect him in his prime because he had the reflexes and foot speed to get away with it. Likely just a bad habit left over from developing his style on his own prior to having any good professional instruction.

Thing is IN HIS PRIME (64/67) he couldn't be hit clean because he was so fast and his reflexes were immense. It was only in the end where it caught up with him.

When your name is Muhammed Ali you can throw punches however you want, and no I don't think Tyson would beat him.

when your Ali you can do that and if you think it looks amateurish i would wager him fighting you would not last more than 3 rounds sir

I love the pic in your sig, Hagler. The one with Ali evading that hook.

ali had the natural speed, reflexes and talent to do that

He doesn't really punch like that lol..he's doing a demonstration.. and Ali wasn't really a reflexive fighter. He was a master at fighting at every distance...when he fougth from the outside he knew he could drop his hands, when he knew you were coming in he knew to tighten up....that's really what it is with him...not really using reflexes but setting you up and raw determination/talent
