Ali comments on the heavyweight greats of the past

and tries to prove he is the greatest of them all.

Always entertaining whether you agree with him or not.

It's pretty funny how Ali changes his mind every two seconds.

I agree with Ali about how skill-less those really old brawlers fought. Not taking anything away from them but when you pit them up against a fighter of Ali's generation I think it's easy to decide who would win.

It's to bad people on this forum get so angry about this though.

You can see the vast difference in skill between Johnson and Walcott. Johnson doesn't know how to throw a real punch.

I believe the old films make them look worse than they were.

Vitali looks like a wild-swinging slugger here

Louis, Walcott and Charles were better boxers than what was shown there:

don't get me wrong, I think this generations heavyweights are taking a step backward. I skipped ahead in you're video - I've already seen the tape a billion times..Johnson just doesn't do it for me. Klitschtko looked awful against peter I'm surprised nobody has come along and beat him up yet.

I've seen the one on one with Cus and it is hysterical. Both made great points and you could tell both were students of boxing history.

Johnson's skills were well adapted to the rules of the time. The concept of going 40+ rounds seems mind-boggling to the modern fighter. Boxing then was a game of delay tactics and wasting as little energy as possible. Running, clinching, and throwing few punches was the name of the game. Break your hand or expend all your energy in the first 10 rounds and you were sure to be finished off just from sheer exhaustion and inability to defend yourself. Modern fighters would have to adapt just as much to compete in that era from a stylistic (and especially stamina) standpoint.

Exactly, it was much different since then, boxing has evolved. If the fighters today were around then they would have fought differently and probably at much lighter weights than they do now and vice versa in that if those fighters were around today they probably would be fighting differently and would probably be fighting bigger than they did in their time.
