So he asks his trainer and his trainer says "You stay the heck away from his left hook. When you need distance, throw a jab. When you have to go in, make sure he is off balance, or throw from his right side."

im struggling to think how Tua, who was a sort of one gear guy, adjusts to that strategy. Even the guys Tua beat, with the notable exception of Moorer, were not guys who were particularly smart fighters...

I could understand if we compared later Razor Ruddock who became a left handed fighter (I think it was his left... it was one hand), and said "this might present some problems. Razor was active later in fights, did have reach (usable power), and could be smart....
I think Tua could handle Rocky's power and would force hm into a toe to toe war. If he can take Ibaebuchi and Lewis' best punches he can take Rocky's. Rocky was knocked down by an old LHW Moore, got busted up by LHW Charles. I think Tua's size and power would match up against Rocky's stamina and limited footwork. Rocky was prone to getting into trade wars in the middle of the ring, that's not where you want to be with Tua. If you are going to be the smaller fighter you need the skill-set of Chris Byrd who defeated Tua with speed and footwork. Rocky could certainly last the 12 rounds, but if it's a close fight I see Rocky hitting the canvas a time or two and giving up those two-point rounds to Tua, which could be the difference in the fight.

I agree about the power....Tua would seem to be able to handle it, however it is important to remember that Rocky was an attrition guy...

Something else to consider is that the power of Marciano's punches did not diminish and carried into the last stages of a fight. Most other fighters may start out punching very hard but their power diminishes as the fight progresses. Rocky's unrelenting punching power coupled with his stamina is what won him his fights. His first fight with Jersey Joe Walcott clearly demonstrates this.

                - -Rocky fought a fringe contender, 6-4, 190 and ended his career and near killed him coming up the ladder.

Thing is Tua near the same height as Rock, but 50 lb.bigger.
