Everyones views are different, and thats the reason this thread is here. As long as people respect the fighters they are talking about you can have a decent discussion, and thats a reason for the success of this thread!!. Any news on the consensus?

Yeah got an email from Hawkins and he is really really busy and hasn't had a chance yet, but he is hoping things settle down for him and he can get back on here as normal.

Rite seen as we have been waiting a while for this list i think we should start on something a little different. I was thinking about best Heavyweight Chin? My rankings from MY LIST are probably :

        1.Holyfield
        2. Ali
        3. Holmes
        4.Marciano - Tyson
        5.Liston
        6. Foreman
        7.Frazier
        8. Dempsey - Johnson
        9.Louis - Lewis

Jerry Quarry, Jim Jeffries, Oliver McCall, 'Tex' Cobb, Joe Grim and George Chuvalo could all take punishment.

I'm not sure if I'd put Holyfield so high up there, it was mostly his heart that kept him up. He was hurt in many of his fights.

Johnson had a suspect chin, Louis and Lewis weren't known for their ability to take punishment either.

EDIT: I see, you're supposed to rank them from your top 10 HW list. Nevermind. I'll rank mine soon.

Best chin's from my top 15 HW list which was made in a hurry:

          1. Ali
          2. Foreman
          3. Holmes
          4. Marciano
          5. Liston
          6. Holyfield
          7. Tyson
          8. Frazier
          9. Dempsey
          10. Lewis
          11. Louis
          12. Charles
          13. Norton
          14. Johnson
          15. Patterson

          Made this up quickly.

Seems like a pretty good list. Damn similar to mine, the reason holyfield is top of mine (i should really have put him joint with Ali) was because he was only hurt by big punchers like Bowe, Lewis and Tyson. And he was hardly knocked down!. My only question would be of Marcianos list, i have him highly ranked aswell but im not convinced he fought people who hit as hard as others on the list!

I have Marciano up there because he made a career out of taking punches and coming forward.

Rocky took some serious punishment in the first round against Walcott but didn't give up (Jersey Joe could punch, not the hardest hitter ever but he dropped Louis and KO'd Charles).

Marciano was small compared to more modern heavyweights but he did take punches from some bigger heavyweights, they weren't very skillful though.

Fighting Nino Valdez who was a top ranked puncher at the time would've answered all the questions about his chin but unfortunately that fight never happened.

I made up the list quickly so I might've overrated him a bit.

Here's Marciano taking a beating from Walcott. Amazing how he could come back to KO Walcott in the 13th round after a first round like that.
That's more heart than chin though.

You are spot on with Jerry Quarry, Oliver McCall, 'Tex' Cobb, and George Chuvalo. Another fighter who was never champion but seemed like he could take a hell of a punch was Zelkjo Mavrovic. Lewis hit him with so many punches in there fight, I couldn't believe he took them and he wasn't even fazed. Granted he never fought many other big punchers but had Lewis not been around maybe he could of won a portion of the title.

Lewis never had a granite jaw but it was far greater than everyone gives him credit for. He probably faced more or if not as many of the biggest hitters in the history of the division and proved he could take a punch off so many hard punchers.

Holyfield had great heart and recuperative powers but could be hurt, but he was a small heavyweight so he has to be given serious credit.

Tyson had a superb chin but it was his heart and desire to dig deep which let him down never his chin.

Frank Bruno had a really good chin as well, he only got hurt when exhausted which was pretty quickly and had he trained different and not concentrated on weights could have been a lot better. Only Bonecrusher really floored him and Tyson with a glancing blow but apart from the Smith fight he stood there taking bombs from Witherspoon,Tyson twice and Lewis.

Holmes had a great chin and the best recuperative powers of any heavyweight.

In regards to a list, I'll have to think about it and post it later.

Cobb for sure: His chin wasn't human (watch the Shavers fight! Come to think of it HE wasn't human). I'd add Paulino Uzcudin and Oscar Bonevena to that list. The Baer brothers and Jim Jeffries I think too.

                    Some good shouts there poet.

How about the heavyweight that had the greatest mental effect on his opponents before they fought or after he beat them. Meaning he ruined their careers for good because they just weren't the same.

Example:- Lennox Lewis ko1 Andrzej Golota

Golota's big professional break came in July 1996, when he was beating former world champion Rid**** Bowe after 6 rounds only to be disqualified for deliberately punching low in the 7th. The result sparked a riot in Madison Square Garden. The following December Golota, gave Bowe a pounding for 8 rounds - and then, incredibly, hit him low and was thrown out again!

On the back of those sensational fights he was brought in to challenge Lennox Lewis for the WBC title in Atlantic City in October 1997. Golota froze and Lewis took him out in 95 seconds.

Afterwards the Pole's childhood stutter returned. 'Accident,' he stammered in the dressing room. 'Too nervous, too much pressure.'

Golota would never be the same fighter again after this.

Ali ended Liston. You can see how badly Ali's mind games and the pressure from Ali's ****** supporters affected Liston in the Sonny Liston HBO document.

Foreman was not the same after losing to Ali, he became a mess but he managed to clear his head and came back from retirement to redeem himself as a fighter. He still has plenty of excuses on why he lost that fight like he did.

Max Schmeling couldn't handle the pressure that was put on him by his country, Louis on the other hand stayed completely calm and destroyed Schmeling.

Jerry Quarry ruined lots of promising fighters.
Thad Spencer was ranked the number 1 heavyweight in the world,
Mac Foster was undefeated, all wins by KO,
Buster Mathis looked good with some solid wins on his record, he had only lost to his rival Joe Frazier,
Jack Bodell was the number 1 British heavyweight at the time and Quarry KO'd him in the first,
Larry Middleton had a good record with solid wins before meeting Quarry, after that he barely won a fight.

Lewis making Oliver McCall cry was pretty weird to watch too.
