There must be at least a half a dozen Tim Witherspoons who became champion throughout the history of the heavyweights, who could and should have achieved more.

    Tim Witherspoon
    Tony Tubbs
    Tony Tucker
    Frank Bruno
    John Tate
    Corrie Sanders
    James Douglas
    Rid**** Bowe

I think the one that stands out to me is Rid**** Bowe, his size and speed. Man he could have been ALOT more than he was had he had more discipline. I think out of all the guys you listed he had the most in terms of ability. It's a shame the dinner table really did him in.

Rid**** Bowe must obviously stand out, then for me it's Buster Douglas and don't laugh but Frank Bruno. I think the dinner table did both Bowe and Douglas and probably the aptly named Tubbs in. As for Frank Bruno he had a beautiful jab and one of the hardest right hands in the game. His problem was the weights and if he had laid off of them he could have been so much faster and athletic and also he could have had much better stamina which when it came down to it was always his downfall and why he lost all of his fights, he only ever got stopped because of fatigue but still always managed to finish on his feet even after taking a tremendous amount of punches especially against Tyson and Lewis.

I liked Frank, I thought he was good. But, like you said, was too addicted to looking like Michelangelo's artwork as opposed to being a fighter. I always thought he could have benefited from a better trainer as well.

How good do you think Bruno could have been had he done everything right in terms of training and had someone like Manny Steward or Eddie Futch train him. Do you think he would have possesed the tools and ability to beat Tyson,Holyfield,Bowe or Lewis.

I think he could have been better. He had some great fundamentals, but I think he needed someone to show him how to tighten up his defense. He was way too easy to hit. I think Manny would have been better suited for him than Eddie Futch personally. Manny excels at retooling a fighter's technique and making them better for it.

Frank gave Tyson a tough a fight, even wobbled him really good in the first and rocked him a few more times. However, I think his technique was more to blame for him getting tagged than anything else. Just my opinion tho'.

I think there a few reasons why he got tagged against Tyson. First of all he wasn't authorative enough, he looked like a rabbit in the headlights before the fight even started even crossing himself several times.

He wasn't mobile enough and had no lateral movement partly because of his enept trainer and also because he insisted on using the weights to excess.

I think had he been quicker he had the ability to frustrate Tyson and with the power of his jab it would have made Tyson think twice at coming straight at him if he had that bit more speed. He had stamina problems which we all know but he just couldn't keep them huge arms of his held up for more than a few rounds again because of all the weights he lifted.

I think a lot of people saw Tyson was beatable after the Bruno fight, and I'm not saying I think if things had been different he would have beaten him but he would have stood a much better chance. He also never really threw combos which was down to the weights again in my opinion and had he been leaner and faster he would have been able to manage this.

Thinking about it he really did waste his talent probably more than Bowe, we all saw how good Rid**** could have been against Holyfield and while maybe had he trained better we would have seen a slightly better Bowe he could already do everything, especially infighting which for a man his size was incredible but Bruno could have improved himself so much more. I think Bruno was probably the only person that actually managed to outbox Lewis until he got stopped but that was a clumsy pre steward Lewis.

Totally, agree. The quickness wasn't there to institute a game plan that Buster used. The hit and move strategy. Stick with the left/right and move to the side. Frank didn't have the quickness to the that effectively IMO.

However, I think Bruno had the power to make Tyson back-up and he didn't do it. Tyson wasn't good at fighting while someone backed him up. Bruno should have used the jab, stuck it in Tyson's face and when Tyson came in sneak that hard right in over the top. Once Tyson felt the full force of that right in his face it would have been alot different.

Agreed, but as well as the jab and the overhand right, the one punch if used properly was a big uppercut as he was rushing in, Tyson always seemed vulnerable to that and also found it more difficult to slip than an overhand right or a jab.

I agree. That uppercut did same damage and would have been even more lethal followed by that monster right hand. Just look at the Tucker fight. Tyson ate a few uppercuts in that one, and Tucker always seemed to find him with that right hand as he came in.

I think the sound strategy for Frank against Tyson should have been establish the jab first and foremost. Once Tyson got comfy he would start coming in, jab or not, and thats when Bruno would use the right most effectively. As the fight wore on he could begin mixing in those uppercuts followed by more rights, because the later it gets in a fight the easier Tyson is to tag.

Bruno had the power to have made a huge dent in anyone. Had he been a little more polished it could have been alot different. Even with his chiseled physique he could have been alot better with an improved technique.
