    Holyfield vs. Savarese

I put this in Boxing History simply because Holyfield is trying to chase history.

Both fighters actually looked pretty good. Holyfield looked very sharp, he had stamina, and he was able to take it too a guy who is built like most heavyweights today: 6'5" 245+ pounds. As far as heavyweights go, this felt like the fight of the year, given the sad, "hug n' tap" state of the division.

    Your thoughts?

It may have been because of the excitement, i was cheering Holyfield on for most of the fight. One of the reasons being fear, fear of him getting hurt. I still have the feeling everytime he fights at this age. He got hurt by punches he would have walked trough in his prime, he had chances to finish the fight and failed but in his prime he would have finished it in a heartbeat(TKO though, Savarese is not a ''OUT'' guy when he gets hit hard) and at the same time i'm very impressed. There aren't many old legends who could have performed like Holyfield that night(Despite fighting a bum, well maybe not a bum) but it will look diffirent when he fights a very good fighter. But i will cheer him on when he goes at it again.
The last active one of the big 3(Lewis, Tyson, Holy)

My fear is in his defensive reflexes. He showed that he can get low, and he started figuring out how to block Savarese's right hand in the last two rounds. If he's open early, however, against some of the monsters at the top of the division, it could spell trouble for him.

Keep in mind, Savarese was actually very active. This was a good stepping stone for Holyfield.

** It ranks up there with the exhibition tour Jeffries and Sharkey did for a number of years up until they were in their 50s. Of course, they are both HOFers, and Savarse ain't, though Holy will probably make it.

Now, when Holy and Tyson go on the Cannibal Exhibition Tour, that will top this latest Holy fiasco!

I like Holyfield and he was a great boxer in his time and still showed some pretty nice stuff but you have to think if you don't need the money why do it. He will turn in to one of those punch drunk pug-faced guys who you see talking about the good years in bars or something. He isn't young anymore and at his age should he be putting his body through fighting? I don't think so. Do what Tyson is doing: get in trouble, trying to fight women, dancing in Bollywood movies. But seriously no one wants him to get badly hurt. A title shot won't be easy so I say drop out while you still can.

I don't think Holy will make it to the top this time. Holy couldn't even knock him out, and past prime Tyson ko'd a prime Savarese in one, so what does that tell you? I think Holyfield probably will receive a title shot and then subsequently smoked.

Styles. Savarese gets KTFO if he gets smothered early. Tyson, Tua etc will get that ass every time. Holy's Holyness at the moment lacks the ability, but like always his heart might let him reach his goal.

Holyfield may lack the ability to simply swarm a guy to death, but he was tactically sound, and he did land a whopper of a left hook in the 9th to put Savarese down with one punch.

Tyson and Holyfield should fight each other again. In their 40's, bury the hatchet, an exhibition of the last good/great heavyweight era on display, etc. Especially since they never got to resolve their prior contests (ie: ear bite, in the 3rd round which Tyson was winning), which should have been a great trilogy for all-time. ****** Tyson... it's good to see him "active" again by attending benefits, dinners, and helping guys like Ibragimov.

Anyway, Holyfield may stand a chance at getting the title. He could get lined up to face the winner of Chagaev/Ibragimov, or whoever's trying to unify. He could have a shot against one of those two. It will be the mandatory unification fight against Klitschko that will spell his end though...unless, of course, the whole thing is rigged.
