dang, I missed all the fun. Good arguments boys.

Holyfield is a great Warrior and in my opinion a "great" fighter. I do however leave him out of my top ten due to his inconsistentsy.

You can pick apart any fighter if you try hard enough. In the end my opinions are based on the film that I have studied over the past twenty-five years, all the fights I continue to watch, styles and matchups and who I THINK is best.

i think it goes lke this......"opinions are like ass-holes"?

ps- Dogg, where is Balboa on your list?

Duran's greatness is at Lightweight. All the other stuff just added to an already great career. Pretty amazing that he was able to continue to do well at the higher weights. I'm not here to blast Holyfield. I love the guy.

See the thing is that pernell whitaker has a great record against elite fighters, duran really doesnt. The duran that i count is the one from 72-84, from 86-2001 his career was irrelevant. Pernell did better against top competiton, there is no doubt about that.

Ehhh, he was overrated. I love the Rock; but he came along at the tail-end of Creed's career and fought in a week era, not to mention with the exception of Laing, he never fought the best; but that was probably his management. Now, I will give him credit for retooling his game at age 34 and defeating Clubber in the rematch and even going to Russia and taking that massive beating from Ivan Drago for 14 rounds before finally stopping the Syberian Express; but let's get real, that was Drago's first professional fight. And his recent comeback against Dixon was impressive for a 60 year old man; but seeing as how Hopkins got the best of Dixon's alter-ego, I don't know what that says about "The Line."....and it was just an exhibiton, after all.

Rocky's got tons of heart; but is sorely lacking in the skills department. Creed would have taken him apart in his prime. I'd have to put him just behind Holyfield.

Also, if anything, I think Carpentier was overrated for the longest time (at light heavy, specifically), in my opinion, and while he certainly had his share of boxing talent, I can't help but view him as somewhat of the media-hyped crybaby of his time...

Taking away the dives his opponents took (like Levinsky), the fixed fights, the bad hometown decisions (like Jeff Smith), the cheap shots (vs. Ted 'Kid' Lewis) and all those cries of "Foul!" he so frequently did, what wins are left on Carpentier's record that are overly impressive?

I see little beyond a knockout victory or two over Bombadier Billy Wells, which even then might not have been on the up-and-up...I just haven't looked into that fight(s) like I have other fights of Carpentier's.

I will agree that Carpentier veresion vs. Tunney was a notch or two below his performance against Dempsey...now that said...the 3 plus years did slow down Carpentier.....I understand your bias against the Frenchman bu the fact of the matter was that he fought everyone at LHW, and he was far more impressive on his early years as MW, we are talking about a guy that fought at HW coming from the MW's...the guy never weighter more than 185 lbs at best....he had great movement and ringsmanship ahead of his time, not to lelvel of Corbett or Tunney but definitevaly one fo the precursors of the science.....

                      - -How many top 10 lists have been posited since Nat and Tex brainstormed the first near 10" yrs ago?

A million and a half sounds too low.

A hundred million sounds middling enough.

A half billion may be too low for what Manny/Floyd generated in $, but perhaps too high for top 10s generated.
