Back when he was boxing, not too many people wanted to get into the ring with him. The only thing I have against Rating him high is that he ever fought a Black boxer. After Jack Johnson, most promotors would not here of it, so I can't blame Dempsey.
Now heres a Question for all u guys, espesially u henry : Do peeps rate fighters they saw in "THEIR" prime too highly? Like say in 40 yrs time will i be sayin the new Cat couldnt touch PBF? I know uz obiously werent around for Dempsey ect! But u get my Point. Feel free to shoot me down, its not sumthing i have a strong opinion on!

Same as Foreman. Well if you count linear defenses in the mid 90s he had more, but that was because he was avoiding the top guys and fighting fringe contenders.

      Liston only had one.

That you have no concept of history vs now and that you're holding it against White fighters whose promoters wouldn't hear of them fighting Black contenders in the wake of the race riots and deaths following the Johnson-Jeffries fight?

You aren't asking me, Robo, but personally speaking, I know I do hold the fighters of the late 70's & early 80's in the very highest esteem (not as bad as I used to be), and some of that isn't just because it was a golden age of sorts in the sport with some fairly big money fights on television every weekend and whatnot. That's when I fell in love with the sport (late 70's), and I also think that a lot of my views from the time had to do with me being a young teenager at the time, and God knows that most of us look back at our teenage days with great rememberance.

I'm not blaming dempsey for it. He was a pioneer and did great stuff for the sport but that doesnt mean he would have outboxed tyson and lennox.

Rocky fought the best black guys and the other challengers, i respect him for that. However he decided to retire way too early and he could have eventually fought liston and others.

Where does the presumption come from that Dempsey couldn't have outboxed a Tyson or a Lewis? Because he's White?!

Back when I 1st got interested in boxing, all the top boxing experts had Dempsey as the #1 Heavyweight of all times, a head of Louis, Johnson and Marciano, etc.

nah cuz both are way bigger and lewis has a significant reach advantage.
