**** Gregory, civil rights activist and comedian, dead at 84

Rest in peace to a true revolutionary figure in the American civil rights movement.

**** Gregory, the pioneering black satirist who transformed cool humor into a barbed force for civil rights in the 1960s, then veered from his craft for a life devoted to protest and fasting in the name of assorted social causes, health regimens and conspiracy theories, died Saturday in Washington. He was 84.

RIP. I saw him speak live in Atlanta. I never care much for his conspiracy stuff. He noted that he was a conspiracy theorist during that event.

During that event he said honkies were called honkies because they would honk their horns for the **********s to come out to them.

I hear you. I just know him from his earlier stuff and hadn't followed any of his more current work. I actually have a couple of vinyl LPs of his. Regardless, in a world of fake people it's always a bummer when a true original passes on.

I don't doubt this being true but if you think the term cracker came from the whipping of ******, another black man named Thomas Sowell says it came from England, as did the term rednecks.
