Russia's motives are to prop up their ally, Assad as stuff is getting crucial, to keep their proprietary things under control (pipelines and the sort), to put a lid on the extremism (Russia is not far from Syria and there are a bunch of Russians fighting for ISIS), and stuff like that.

State's only act out of perceived self-interest (as well as cronyism).

There is no suggestion that Russia is benevolent here.

This is all *****'s fault from start to finish. His cowardly desperation to avoid conflict has given ISIS and now Russia the initiative. The next US election can't come quick enough.

... you two: you better go and live in Russia -- you'd love to be there...

Remember, ***** won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009...

But yes, a ballsy US administration is needed, badly.

                Expand on your view MD.

ISIS came to prominence after *****'s insistence on bringing the US troops out of Iraq earlier than planned which created a power vacuum, from there ISIS moved into Syria.

Since then ***** has steadfastly refused to intervene, condemning tens of thousands to torture and death while destablizing the region as a whole, causing mass displacement of refugees.

In light of American reticence Russia has seized the opportunity and they're now calling the shots. Who knows what they have in mind, but you can guarantee it won't be pretty in the short-term or the long-term.

Wait, I'm seeing on the news that's it now confirmed they are not bombing ISIS. Instead hitting anti Assad Syrian rebels. The very group the U.S is arming and helping.

Of course the butthurt yanks will use propaganda to claim that Russia is "only attacking the peaceful FSA who are fighting for the good!" BS. They are, but they're certainly making kebab out of Isis **** as well. Don't F with the Lion of Damascus.

The very group the U.S. is arming and helping are untrustworthy, unreliable and ticking Islambombs.

Yes, this is what I read in the paper this morning. The story said: the group that Russia bombed received training from the CIA. Looks like Russia is fighting U.S.' proxy e.g. the Syrian opposition.
