the most important thing is to land the first punch. from my experience whoever lands first usually wins.
it's not a sport, most are not well trained nor have game plans. whoever gets hit first usually panics.
if you wanna talk tactics, grab their hair or shirt collar with off hand and take off with just your power hand as MANY and as FAST as you can.
1. most first instinct is to grab your hand, leaving you to punch away.
2. others will punch back with 2 hands. your offhand grabbing their hair/collar will naturally deflect/block half their punches.
3. punching with 1 hand is faster than punching with 2.
4. grabbing one hand helps with accuracy. guides your punch and restricts their head movement.
this is not boxing. no bs about honor/fairplay or looking good.
im actually quite serious with this question lol.
slapping, is it enough to put ppl away?
punching, would you risk breaking your knuckles?
Most people don't know how to punch and end up connecting with their ring and pinky finger. That's why you'll see them after crying with a swollen hand. Unless you have a perfect shot, and know how to punch, it's pointless even throwing a punch.
I haven't been in a street fight as an adult, so I can't say it will be the same as before but I assume I go with punch. The exception being if they expose a weapon as I have frozen up at knife point before. Fortunately nothing serious ended up happening so it was probably good that I didn't take a swing at the guy.
Punch lol, street fights generally don't last long at all, there's always people around or some fuckery involved and generally unless it's personal people don't want to fight any more after getting hit a couple of times, so get your shots in.

when ppl show you a knife, they have no intent to use it.
the guy who does, you'll never see it. they just start stabbing.
i've had guys pull knife multiple times, they never stabbed.
when i got stabbed, i didn't know they had knives.
when ppl show knives it's to threaten not hurt.
what i've done is tell them if he wants to play w/ weapons, i'm gonna get my gun from the car. they usually run away or back off.
it also has the advantage of them not chasing/following you. if they do, pop the trunk (EVEN WHEN YOU HAVE NOTHING THERE) and they'll run.
