It's interesting Metal got more technically proficient in every instrument than Rock except the Vocals (which took a step back in my opinion ).

if ya think about it the vocals would kinda have to be more brutal and fast to be able to even keep up with the tecnical ability of the other instroments, some exceptions obviously (avenged 7x, alter bridge, exc.)

I agree Tred.

It might not take as much talent and skill to scream/growl, but it takes a lot out of a person physically to pull that off.

I mean Phil Anselmo can barely speak at a decent volume these days. He can still perform very well, but his vocals aren't close to being as brutal.

As much as I appreciate those kind of vocals, it comes at a price.

exactly, anselmos talking voice is a low drown sound, and since screaming is a very forced vocal style, its hard to do night after night, i expect guys like randy blyth to sound the same as phil in a few years.

i just 5starred this thread of yours... forget the red....

From my standpoit, my penchance for Heavy metal stuff changed with age as the angst slowly leaves me and is replaced by responsibility..... From the speed, death, trash, to the wave, grunge, post punk, to rap-metal (whattaya call this anyways really?), Indie rock, industrial..... i say.... its been a hell'a ride....

I still listen to old tracks that heydays my puberty fix, but with age i now listen to more melodic and less incomprehensible babble screams with the paddle **** of the double-base drums and hum of the distinct overdrive laced with a baby -wah..... i hung up already on my guitar.... but as always when alone or just trippin.... i jack up my iPod to the max and blast out my Disturbed tracks. then back to motorhead stuff for refreshment.....
