Aleading epidemiologist has criticized early pandemic policies of broad, anti-COVID lockdowns, calling it a "lazy" strategy that was "hugely damaging."
In his upcoming book, Mark Woolhouse, an infectious disease expert at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, said Britain's national lockdowns had unnecessarily harmed young people's lives and left "a record-breaking mountain of public debt."
The professor said the British Government committed several errors, which included growing the country's public debt to cover its furlough scheme and enforcing lockdowns on age groups that were less at risk of dying from COVID-19.
"We did serious harm to our children and young adults who were robbed of their education, jobs and normal existence, as well as suffering damage to their future prospects, while they were left to inherit a record-breaking mountain of public debt," Woolhouse wrote in the book titled The Year the World Went Mad: A Scientific Memoir
On Britain, Woolhouse added: "All this to protect the NHS [National Health Service] from a disease that is a far, far greater threat to the elderly, frail and infirm than to the young and healthy.
"We were mesmerized by the once-in-a-century scale of the emergency and succeeded only in making a crisis even worse. In short, we panicked. This was an epidemic crying out for a precision public health approach and it got the opposite."

[QUOTE=TernceBudCharlo;n31246521]Originally posted by TonyGe View PostThey have already mandated no smoking in public places long ago. Why? Because it affects the health of others. This mandate if it ever happens is no different. It's happening here. They just fired nursing and support staff that refused to get vaccinated at our local hospital. The idea that those people had that they don't need to be vaccinated against a highly contagious disease that preys on older people and people with preexisting conditions when that is who the hospital is full of is the height of selfishness. That's what really aggravates the people who got vaccinated. They precieve the antivaxers as selfish arrogant slackers that cry and moan endlessly that they are being picked on. This is not a noble cause that they are crusading about. Go and question the economy, human rights the World Bank trying to get rid of currency, wars etc. Those are real issues. This is about trying to protect yourself sure but also protecting others. If that means getting vaccinated then so be it.
No the vaccines were never advertised as 100% effective. If it was they would have passed the trials with a rating of 100% which none of them were. The original strains which was the target when they designed the vaccines are no longer a big concern. The virus has mutated since those early days and will continue to mutate. This simple fact isn't grasped by people opposed to the vaccines even though they were very successfull in reducing deaths. You are going to see more and different vaccines produced that will be effective against this latest variety. Vaccinations are safe and save lives. That isn't a bad thing unless your an antivaxer that needs something to complain about. This has been turned into some kind of crazy conspiracy by paranoid individuals when all the health departments in the world are trying to save lives which is what they were hired and trained to do. There is a big difference between the government BANNING conduct versus MANDATING conduct. Huge difference. We banned smoking in public but we never FORCED anyone to smoke in public.
You keep saying that the vaccine protects others. I explained why it doesn't and nobody has ever offered any evidence why it does.
I completely understand that the vaccines were only tested on the original strain, in fact this is why the vaccines work much less better than advertised. They were advertised as 95% effective but the truth is anyone who knows anything about viruses knew the virus would mutate and the vaccine would lose its strength. But the public health experts did a HORIBLE job of warning people about this risk. Nobody was saying what you are saying now back, about the virus mutating and the vaccine being less effete, this spring EXCEPT for the anti vaxers when explaining the weakness of the vaccine. It's wrong of you now to steal the anti vexers argument and pretend it is your own.
If vaccines are so safe then say that to the tens of thousands of children who have lost their lives to the vaccine.

Skirting the subject as usual. You said I do everything the media and government tell us to do. I proved you wrong. I didn't go through all the clips you posted but the ones I did came out of the trial not the final results when the vaccines were released. None of these vaccines were touted as being 100% when they were prescribed for use. By the way how did your natural immunity work out. You got Covid twice didn't you and most likely will get it again. Having said that glad to see you recovered.

Why will I mostly likely get it again? Because I'm not vaccinated? Everyone I know getting it now is vaccinated.
