[REAL TALK] Stop giving money to panhandlers!

Older post but worth mentioning. Most beggars are addicts of some kind or just lazy f**** who won’t work. I sometimes will offer them food but even then they usually decline. I offered to buy one a sandwich one time and he goes through all the trouble of ordering it, I paid, he thanked me and then when I got a short distance away I seen him toss it in the trash. Some of them are pulling down hundreds per day. I saw one news video where they panhandle all day and then get into a brand new car.

From Cheyenne Police Department in 2017

Yesterday, July 22, we arrested a transient for public intoxication. This is a person we frequently deal with, but we want to illustrate that there are better ways to help the transient population than to give them money for panhandling. This person collected $234.94 in just a few hours of asking for money. Rather than feeding someone's alcohol addiction, you can donate directly to local charities such as the Comea Shelter where your money will assist the homeless in a much more effective way.

I took a class trip to D.C. in 5th grade. We saw quite a few panhandlers begging for $. My chaperone was a friend's Dad and he told the bums to stay away from us kids. He told our group to not give them $ and that most are addicts or doing it for easy $. This one girl's Mom overheard him and told her group that my friend's Dad was rude and that most of the bums just got into bad circumstances and needed help. She gave a few $. Once we finished our tour of the Smithsonian Air and Space museum we went to get food. We ended up seeing a bum the one girl's Mom gave $ to getting into his newer Mercedes and drive off .

True story, this happened about six years ago. I was craving some Chinese food and decided to drive thirty minutes to my favorite spot, on my way back I'm at the stop light waiting to enter the freeway this homeless guy comes up to the window and asks me for change. Unfortunately I didn't have any at the time so I offer the guy my meal, I told him that I had just bought the food a few minutes ago and that it was fresh. He hesitated a bit but said ok thanks so I gave him my meal. As the light was about to turn green this mother lover tells me that he would rather have cash instead. I obviously got mad as fk and since that day I have never given anyone money. My dumb@$$ had to go back to the restaurant to get myself another meal and to be honest I was pissed that the food didn't even hit the spot right

Some of the stories I've read here made me think about the first time I visited New Orleans. I was staying in Slidell (sp?) outside of the city with a University friend and all of his friends, some a fair bit younger than we were. These kids had no problem pretending to be homeless and asking people for money once we drove into New Orleans. They also began bragging about how much money they made by begging.

The kids didn't even seem to be poor. They were all at least middle class White kids from what I could tell. It was mind boggling. They likely spent the money on ecstacy or weed.

When I’m in the City(SF) I sometimes give money to panhandlers who have dogs.

They know who to hit up for change.

I do however pay pan handlers to hold down street parking spots.

In Japan, these people don’t ask. The collect cardboard and sell it.

I've always felt it would be a good idea to send the homeless to a working farm or ranch designed specifically for them.

They get free food and lodging as long as they work the fields, or take care of livestock, or cook/clean/do maintenance/contribute in some way.

Any profits of the farm/ranch can go towards hiring mental health specialists, to drug rehab services, to career training, etc.

This would provide a safefy net for those down on their luck and get them off the street, while avoiding the practice of just giving them handouts.

I'm always handing out a couple bucks or buying food for them, its just in my nature. Fairly obvious as to who really is in need of a little helping hand, atleast to me it is. What's only a couple bucks to myself can be what someone less fortunate only has to feed themselves with over who knows how long. If they end up using it to buy a tall can...then enjoy that tall can homeboy!

Back in the 80s when I lived in Philly the local news did an expose on panhandlers. One guy who wished to remain anonymous said he made over 80k a year. Now 80k is good money even today but back then that was baller money. I live in Vegas now and play video poker once in a while at local taverns and a couple years ago I was playing and a homeless guy next to me dropped 1600 bucks in about thirty minutes. After he left the bartender said he came in a few times a month and always played at least a grand each time.

When I give money to these people I know it's a 50% chance it's for drugs.

Idc.... At the end of the day they doing worst than me.

Plus if I was homeless I probably would want drugs too lol
