Some cops do probably routinely use excessive force. I think you could make a good case that Chauvin did here, or was at least negligent. Proving murder/manslaughter is pretty much impossible imo since Floyd was resisting, and did have a heavy amount of drugs in his system. There is too much reasonable doubt there to prove anything too malicious imo. You could make a reasonable case that at least some or most of the force was justified, and that the drugs killed Floyd.

No there isn't any doubt. A jury of his peers took only 10 hours to come to an agreement on the verdict. Having been on a jury that dealt with an assault on child I am confident that part of the 10 hours was filler because they didn't want to look like they were rushing. The majority if not all of the jury made up their minds after the closing arguments and before they went into deliberations. Obviously the defense who didn't have much to work with did the best they could but their client had dug himself a huge hole with his conduct regarding Floyd. Given that they did a good job of presenting their case. There is no pot of gold or rabbit pulled out of the hat for Chauvin. He sentenced himself with his conduct. Like I've said numerous times Chauvin IMO is a psychopath.

Imagine if Floyd didn't change anything he did and another group of officers showed up to handle the situation. A group of officers that didn't have a psychopath and suspected racist as the lead member. Floyd would be alive today facing an investigation concerning his alleged passing of counterfeit money.
