I've had a gum shield molded by the dentist but when I bite down on the shield none of the front teeth connect theres a small gap. The dentist said that it's fine the way it is. Should I have a small gap, I've always thought that all the bottom teeth need to be in contact with the guard

Problems with dentist fitted gum shield

On any mouthpiece, Id think both upper and lower teeth should be in firm contact. perhaps it needs trimmed a bit. I just bought one of these (below) but haven't tried it out yet or even molded it. Want to see how the breathing hole works out during sparring. I really cant get enough air through my nose at all times to keep clamped down on my single upper mouthpiece. Does everyone keep their mouth shut and only breath through the nose (at all times) when they are in the thick of it?

I'm pretty sure a bit needs to be trimmed as well. I can flick the gumshield out with my tongue as well, it ain't even that tight.
