Sorry for the wait. So I did end up being able to fight. A guy in the tournament from the 165lb division that had a bye until this upcoming saturday (since there was an odd number of people), was gracious enough to fight me. Even though there was a 12-13lbs weight difference they allowed it.
I lost a split decision. I swear I did enough to win at least 2 of the rds. I definitely hurt him in the 3rd but he did a good job of tying me up and recovering.
Here's vid (sorry its in vertical, clearly I wasn't the one recording lol):
What is this bout requirement that you spoke of? …...Rockin'
So while the national golden gloves doesn't have a min bout requirement, the Upper midwest golden gloves (UMGG) has a 4 active bout requirement in order to participate. I showed them the literature from the national one and the organizer asked the president of the UMGG but he said I couldn't because they don't make exceptions.
The guy I had my first fight with and this guy I just had my last fight with will now fight each other in the Final.
The first guy I fought is 5-0 (I imagine he'll win and will become 6-0 and move on to nationals), this last guy I fought was 5-1.
I weighed in at 151 and the guy I fought was 164-165.
Just found out dude I fought this weekend has pulled out of the tournament. No further info atm. So dude I had my first fight with (Jerred) is declared champ.
We've become friends and are going to spar, so that's dope. Will get some good work in.
You looked good in that fight. It was hard to see all the action but you seemed to have the sharper punches. You probably would’ve done well at 152 in the tournament. Good for you taking on the heavier opponent I would’ve been hesitant as well.
Things may have changed as a guy weighing 151 would have never fought a guy at 164. Too much weight difference...…..Rockin'
They made me weigh in again over 153lbs before they would sanction it, but after I drank my shake some water and weighed in with clothes/shoes there was no issues.
Everyone knew what the deal was and no one objected, including the other fighter/coaches and all of the officials.
He was supposed to fight this saturday in the semi final so I was grateful that he took the fight because he most definitely didn't have to.

Thanks man. Kinda gassed myself a bit trying to follow up after I rocked him in the 3rd, but fought on.
Feeling really good about it overall. Feeling like I'm closing the gap between the much more experienced fighters. Excited to fight someone in my weight class! Hoping I can get matched up, I think the next one is May 4th.
