that;'s not what he's telling you to do.
he is telling you to wrap your hands.

if you're too lazy to wrap your hands, you are too lazy to box.

there are solid tutorials for wrapping your hands on the internet. the key points are supporting the wrist and thumb, and padding the knuckles. at some point, your wrap should be in between your fingers and wrapping around the hand. spread your hand and make a fist constantly while you are wrapping your hands.

i'm sur ethere are trainers on here who can give you some higher level tips if you need them. i'm not a trainer.

keep a pad for your knuckle that you've already rolled together lying around so you aren't reinventing the wheel every time you wrap your hands. there are actually relatively inexpensive pads that you can buy specifically to act as the padding over you knuckles when you wrap your hands. i've never used them, and would just create a pad out of an ace bandage, smaller wrap, etc. some high level boxing guys suggest a damp sponge.

Too loose or too tight can cause/likely will cause injury. When they are perfect you can really punch. I personally like them wrapped high...then I feel like I'm wear casts and can really power. I never had a hand injury. If you close you fist and look at you hand from the top you see a triangle. By nature of design...pressure will cause an outward transfer of force making the hand expand outwards. This is where you will tear and break bones. Like Rockin' said...you have the tiniest bones in your body in your hands...you also have a lot of them. If they are wrapped too tight it's also bad although you will know something is wrong immediately. You should watch a video on how to do it right. Don't mess around with your hands...it only takes one punch to cause a lifelong problem.

most of these are fine points, but this is bscene and i'm not going to pass up the opportunity to nitpick

the smallest bones in the body are in the ear.

The guy hits the bag for 5 minutes at a time. Longevitiy is not an issue here, holy **** lmao. you guys get hard at the chance to correct someone, no matter how miniscule the scenerio.

it only takes one misplaced shot........ that can be done in less than one second. Let alone 5 minutes while factoring in fatigue and shots thrown improperly because of fatigue.

hands are very delicate, especially kids hands that have not been built strong around the bones yet.

it really matters little to me if he takes care of his hands or not, he'll do as he pleases, but if you want to avoid injury than I'd recommend taking the proper precautions.

if the chance of permanently damaging your hands is a miniscule thing to you than so be it. I hit the bag often with no wraps after my hands were built strong. Give me a rainy day and I can point to the exact place of the injuries within my hands, all from hitting the bag unprotected.

you must be a real tough guy or something.

Anyway, I could wrap both hands in less than three minutes.

Take the time or don't, your injuries will have no affect on me.

Wait...if he is going to the TV and back to the bag....leave your hands wrapped if you are that lazy.

You guys take more time out of your day to debate about how you should protect your hands because if you don''t it'll destroy your life, you'll get a girl pregnant, and make you homeless.

No one here is debating that it would be bad for your hands..

But it isn't as significant as you're making it to be. Especially how common it is for so many martial artists, even boxers, to punch bags bare handed, let alone without gloves. Compare that to a kid that just wants to hit the bag for 5 minutes maybe once or twice a week. That's 10 minutes chief.

You keep saying what he does won't matter... yet you're still here arguing. That's baffling.

You must be a real tough guy or something.

nope, just sensible. I don't care what advice the kid takes. Hit the bags with no wraps and sooner or later you'll run in to trouble.

                  .
because you are still here telling people that you don't need wraps. these people are not pros and for the most part are not even amateurs. these are the people who have not built up their hands at all and are more prone to injury.

with the freedom of the internet every opinion can be voiced, even if it's a know nothin' opinion like yours.

so to all of the enthusiasts out there, take the time now to properly protect your hands. it's the only pair you got!

Always wrap your hands, the more you wrap them the quicker you'll get it done.
For light use you're talking 1 minute per hand tops.
After you've let your wraps dry always roll them up, do it while watching telly...then you're good to go when you need them again.
