How much does power have to do with a knockout/knockdown?

Well there are different type of knock downs. A lot of the time a person gets knocked out/down by a punch they don't see coming, in that case, yes speed is important, and a person that doesn't have 1 punch knock out power can still score knock outs with speed and accuracy.
But i think that true power is always better. You know, the kind of puncher that can hurt somebody with a glancing blow. I think that power always comes with speed, i have never seen somebody who can punch hard being ultra slow.
Technically the physics equation to power is "mass x velocity", so in theory it means that a guy who is very light but can devellop high velocity in his punches could be a hard puncher.
This is where i get lost though, there are guy who are very fast who still punch like bitches.

i think getting knocked out or down is a state of mind...look at tyson or foreman. those are scary looking mother ****ers. you would be scared to get hit by them just by looking at them. and having that in your head is probably gonna make there punches a whole lot more.

power has alot to do with it, but like tyson said in his documentary... its the accuracy and the precision of that punch that makes the strength of that punch ten times harder.. learned that from cus d'amato

Of course speed and power are what causes any kind of equilibrium disrupting damage to a person inside a boxing ring. However, that is only 50% of the equation, the other 50% is the other person making the mistake of letting you hit them.
Any kind of way you can imagine a guy getting knocked out, it's happened. But, as stated above, it's carelessness that normally gets people hurt...Like, if a guy starts landing some good shots and the other one covers up, and the other guy keeps throwing...keeps throwing...not knowing the guy covering up is timing him...****..

i think its a combination of both and it also depends on what kind of knockdown/knockout it is. If you punch someone right on the jaw with pinpoint accuracy it would take an astounding amount of power to put them out or down on their ass. If you hit them flush on the forehead or the temple it would take more power to put them down by causing the brain to shake in the skull. If you cant produce enough power to cause the person brain to bounce back and forth from hitting those 2 spots then they wont go out or down. take a look at foreman. he was the quickest puncher but all would agree he had hands of stone. Ali was so accurate and fast but he didnt really put fighters down with just 1 punch. he would break them down with his agility, speed, accuracy. Now you take someone like tyson with more power then what foreman had and the agility and accuracy if not higher then what ali had, throw in some ferociousness and animal instinct then you get one scary individual.
