How long was it until you had your first amature fight?

I started boxing about 6 weeks ago and my trainer and a couple of the seasoned amatures at my gym are saying I'm ready for my first fight later this month..

But I don't know if I'm ready or not... how long did you guys train until your first fight?

6 months, and that was considered very early by pretty much everyone i talked too. my advice would be to wait some more. in 6 weeks talented or not u most likely have several areas which are pretty much completely unexplored, unless u had great sparring. how long have u been sparring? how much? have u got the chance to spar diffrent styles? counterpunchers, tall jabbers, pressure fighters, southpaws etc etc..

im really tall, about 6'2 and when i made my debut it was at 141 (now im at 152). the point is i never fought somebody who was as tall as me without being way slower, and even the slower guys i had struggled with so when i fought tall guys my own size it gave me all types of problems. just felt uncomftorable not being able to have a "comfort zone" were i could hit them without them hitting back.

I've been training for over a year and my first amature fight that will go on my card is still a few months away, although I have done a 4 exhibitions and will get in a practice fight or 2 before I start.

6 weeks is not enough although it won't do ye any harm (assuming the fight doesn't turn ye off the sport)

got stopped in the fist round.
i would wait a while mate, get some quality sparring done first.

lol, i finished my training session on Friday and my instructor came up to me and said i should think about entering in the amature fight night in about 3 weeks.. I was like wait... wut??? lol

He told me to tell him what I thought about it this week... I think Im gonna wait a month or two.. i just wanted to see how long most ppl take until their first fight

and @ assassin.. i started sparring about 3 weeks ago.. I've only sparred against my instructor and another dude that has a fight coming up in 2 weeks.

I think I held up pretty good. I'm 6'0 about 210 pounds and I used to play college rugby so I'm in decently good shape. Plus I'm a southpaw lol

then u should wait. i mean getting your ass whupped in front of a room full of ppl isnt a great experience, its better to take those ass whuppins in the gym. at some point u might get beat, most likely. but u want it to be cuz he was the better fighter. not cuz u rushed into something u wasnt ready for. especially a big guy like u, one mistake n it can be a short night for u. so u should take your time and make sure u are ready.

damn well i had my first fight after 2 weeks. knocked the guy out. honestly wasnt well prepared, had never sparred before the fight because i'm a muscular guy so no one ever wants to spar me. it was too soon to fight, i just hit extremely hard and caught him to the body. my next fight is in two weeks making it 2 months, and the level i feel at at this point is way beyond that of my first fight. but once again going in with only 4 rounds of sparring

Yeah man, I kinda feel like im the same way.. like my instructor doesn't really let me spar with anyone else, and the dude he does let me spar with he tells me to go easy on lol, and the other dude has been boxing for 2 years and has a dozen amature fights under his belt.. He says i hit hard as hell and have great head movement.. I dont think I've ever been hit hard in the head while sparring
