i have noticed in my sparrin sessions that 2 punches that are ver effective are when i am comin in a straight left to the gut and when i am backin out a right hook.. i hear alot of southpaws talk about the left uppercut and thats a hard punch to land any tips on how i should go about it?

How I see it done....
Throw a right (jab or hook) to your opponents head, your opponent will instinctively cover his left side. You make a quick mental note where he positions his right hand. Do it again, see where is that right hand.
If the right hand is down he is protecting his right, anticipating that left-to-the-body, or left upper cut. So you gotta go with the left-hook to the head.
If both hands protect the head...that is prime time to execute the left uppercut. watch Zab Judah vs Miguel Cotto footage...Zab throws a sweet left uppercut that rocks Cotto, several times. Cotto protects his head high up, vulnerable to a left uppercut.

I think the left uppercut feels really natural when another fighter comes straight in and low. Drop your shoulder, split their gloves, and let them walk right into it. This and in fighting are the only two ways I land a left uppercut consistently.
