Just rewatched Derevychenko and GGG

I think I was too harsh on GGG when I watched it live and then even when I scored it...like some others I may hold him to too high expectations sometimes...SD was active, but GGG was pretty active too throughout...and I think a lot of SD's 'activity' work was blocked or parried...but he of course had good moments too...most of the big shots were by GGG in most rounds.

I also think DAZN's commentators are pretty bad...you would think if anything they would hype GGG's work at the expense of the non-DAZN fighter, but they actually do the opposite here....for evidence at the beginning of round 12, Mora and Kenny hype SD's work...yet in that exchange I think I counted one clean shot, to the body, from SD, while GGG landed 3 or 4 good shots.

Also about halfway through the round, they are still talking about how great SD was doing, while GGG lands another 3 or 4 good shots...10 seconds later SD lands a couple good body shots that Mora raves about, ignoring the work GGG did.

I watched it live and scored it without sound so it's not like they affected my scoring...but Brian Kenny doesn't really know what he is seeing, saying stuff is scoring when it is parried or hits arms...Mora is OK but you can tell he doesn't really like GGG...you would think they would be a little more neutral or pro GGG since he is a DAZN investment.

Mannix giving GGG 1 round from 3-10 is honestly just crazy...I think he was probably legitimately better in 3,4,6,7, and 8...and 9 was close...5 and 10 clear to SD...I only gave GGG 3 of those rounds...to only give him 1 of those is kind of crazy imo.

1 - GGG (KD)
2 - GGG - pretty close, but most damage is by GGG with the cut
3 - SD - close round, I actually think GGG did the most damage, but can't see him up 3-0, so slide a close round to SD
4 - GGG - close again, feel again the best shots were landed by GGG.
5 - SD - close round but clear for SD, as he hurt GGG with the body shot at the end of the round
6 - GGG - close...can't remember if it was this one or round 4, but in the last 30 seconds I said 'OK, close round, whoever wins this last 30 wins' and that was clearly GGG
7 - GGG - clear round..not sure if I scored it for him live...but one of the clearest rounds of the fight...he landed more and the best shots
8 - SD - again like round 3, I feel like straight up GGG may have taken it, but SD closed well, and it doesn't quite feel right having GGG up 6-2...but I feel like 5-2-1 is maybe the right score at this point.
9 - eh - SD - close round again, felt like SD probably took it...GGG landed some big shots but SD landed some good ones too, and was a bit more active
10 - SD - clear - did some great work - probably the best round I've seen against GGG..basically only round where I have seen him seriously outworked, and also had the bigger punches landed on him...GGG still never really hurt here and ended the round well...landed some big shots himself, and SD appeared more tired than GGG during the round.
11 - GGG - pretty clear...GGG with the better/harder and cleaner shots...big right hand at the end of the round should seal it
12 - GGG, close - feel like he did more/better and cleaner work in this round.

So 7-5 GGG - felt GGG has 4 clear rounds - 1,2,7,11...SD 2 clear rounds - 5,10....feel GGG straight up was better in 3,4,6,8,12 but only gave him 3 of those rounds as they were close rounds and it was a close fight with swing rounds and it felt harsh to give GGG a round and a big lead in a close fight.

I had it 6-6 when I originally scored it, but felt SD was the better man...watching it again I think GGG was actually better on the night, but it was a great fight and some good action and close rounds...it would be a bit hard for me to see where SD gets 7 rounds here though.

When expectations are high, we tend to overreact to seeing things that don't the expectation. So, I'm not surprised if people end up seeing it closer on rewatch. I haven't rewatched it so I can't give an opinion but I can think of a lot of fights that made more sense on replay.

It was unexpectedly close and it may have been the first time I ever saw Golovkin hurt by a punch. That said, I thought it was a pretty clear win for GGG.

Thanks man...yeah I was surprised how I saw it on rewatch...at the same time, I can't really blame anyone who felt SD deserved 6 or maybe even 7 rounds because I certainly felt that way when I saw it live.

So yeah GGG didn't look quite as done as I had thought...SD's speed, quickness, workrate, toughness were all tough for him to deal with...I would still favor Canelo against GGG in a 3rd fight, as his punch resistance has looked a bit worse his last two fights (certainly vs SD) than he had shown prior in his career...but Canelo's workrate isn't as high as SD's so it may be a good fight again still, as I feel that is what was giving GGG problems as much as anything.

I would say this was a decent win/performance for GGG if SD hadn't looked so average against Culcay...but Culcay seems to be a good fighter himself, just not really in with the right promoters.

Thanks, yeah I've seen him bothered a few times - Vanes landed a solid one in round 1 that he didn't see that comes to mind...but even on rewatch that body shot didn't really seem as bad as I initially thought...my bigger issue for GGG is he seemed to take SD's shots worse overall...head snapping back a bit etc...I watched Canelo-GGG 2 earlier and SD's work was really a good bit more effective than Canelo's overall as far as apparently damaging shots.

Not sure if that is from age or training differences now, or if SD is a bigger puncher - after that KO from Nelo that is hard to imagine right this second...maybe GGG isn't doing all those neck exercises he was doing with Abel lol...but if his punch resistance up top is diminishing that is not good and he should probably take a good look at hanging em up...maybe he puts in the extra training miles for the biggest fights though.

I haven't watched the GGG - Derevychenko fight again, so I don't know how I would score it, but I have been surprised occasionally when I've rewatched a fight.....Like the time I rewatched Tony Harrison vs Jermell Charlo. I was very surprised that on second, close viewing, I thought Harrison definitely won that fight. When I watched it live I was sure that Charlo should have been the winner but I was definitely wrong. All that ineffective stalking that Charlo was doing tricked the viewers into believing Harrison was just running and afraid to engage.

Yeah I kind of agree man...sometimes the announcers can taint the fight but I had it on mute and wasn't even listening to them when I watched and then scored originally lol...I think I missed some of GGG's work and took note of all of SD's originally since GGG was the favorite and SD the underdog...just was expecting more from GGG I suppose.

I hope his punch resistance is still there though, he looked about as vulnerable on some shots as I've seen...maybe he was content to eat some of them after he felt SD's power, since he didn't really back up much from those shots...but he was still getting touched up a lot and they seemed to be affecting him somewhat...but his power and skills were still pretty good, he did some good work throughout the fight and landed some big shots.

Yeah I need to watch that fight myself in total to see how I feel about that one...seems like some view it for Charlo and some for Harrison (and some both like you ) lol...I'm interested in how I would see it...I hope those top guys at 154 continue to mix it up...seems like we have gotten some delays on those big fights there lately.
