    Is AJ a Hype Job?

The belts that AJ had (that Ruiz now has) were originally Tyson Fury's, but as we all know, AJ did not fight Fury. The belts were stripped and AJ did have to fight him. He has been fighting competition that is not necessarily the toughest and and old washed up Klitchko knocked him down, got wabbled by power shots in several fights (not to mention the beating he got by Ruiz). So, considering the former, do you think AJ was too hyped?

His wins against Whyte and Povetkin were solid, but he was most definitely overhyped.

I would say yes, but getting up from that punch by Wlad makes me think he is for real. Then again, quitting against Ruiz makes me think he isn't for real.

So I am unable to answer the question in a comprehensive manner.

Ask Eddie Hearn; he would know for sure.

One of the biggest hype jobs of all time.

Credit to Eddie Hearn though, he managed to con an army of casuals into thinking that a big, stiff, useless weightlifter was an elite boxer!

AJ is a bum, he'll retire when he gets knocked out again by Ruiz.

Dude is what I term a "Super Heavyweight" and he's gotten where he's gotten based on pure size and power. If you take away his size there is nothing special there at all. Sorry, I know it sucks for his fans to read but make him Andy Ruiz's size and tell me does AJ even contend for a belt outright. The answer is no.

Let's look at the top guys in the division. Wilder, Joshua, Fury, Parker, Ortiz, Now Ruiz. Not one of these guys is a perfect fighter. But in the Heavyweight Division, its a little different compared to welter/ middle etc. Every top heavy is over hyped in some way. Now Joshua doesnt have the greatest chin, and is a little robotic, but he did beat a more lively klitchko that Fury did, and did get up from the canvas to ko Wlad. I always respect that. If he loses again to Ruiz then I think its safe to say that mentally it will be hard to come back to the top. Is he overhyped? Maybe but so is every fighter that matters.

I feel you, but he made a great comeback against a REALLY out of prime Klitchko off of a long lay off. That Klitchko victory was too hyped IMHO. Plus, AJ had a hard time in that fight. But I feel your input fam.

If he's overhyped, then Wilder and Fury have to be the two biggest bums in the history of boxing because they ducked him and everyone he KO'd.

And the fact that his resume is better than the resumes of the both of them combined and he did it in the half the years they both turned pro adds credence to that.

Josh will retire as the best heavyweight since Lennox Lewis when it's said and done.

He could not fight Fury because Fury was out of action, He beat who he had to beat to get the titles, That's the way boxing works. If Fury can't fight for years his titles become vacant and boxers fight for them. AJ's fights were seen by most boxing fans so I don't think he was a hype job. He beat lots of top contenders and was huge favorite over Ruiz. He got blasted out quickly in a big upset. That happens sometimes in boxing. It doesn't make all of his good wins go away. I don't think he was a hypejob. Ruiz may have ruined him but he had a good record before Ruiz.

He was doing great but Ruiz knocked him out in 4 rounds and that changes everything. He might lose the rematch and get knocked out again. He may never be a champion again. You are obviously a huge fan of his. All this about him retiring as the best heavyweight since Lewis might just be some very wishful thinking on your part. The rematch with Ruiz will tell if AJ's career goes up or down.
