Funny that people would argue about this when it's pretty clear cut. Yes all the major, reputable orgs consider lineal status vacant in the hw division. But even if you just think about it for 2 seconds it doesn't make sense that Fury would still be considered lineal champ.

You can't stop fighting for two years, retire, give up your belts, and still be lineal champ just because you beat the man. Lineal status gets vacated in a situation like that. If Pianeta had beaten Fury would he be lineal champ right now? lol

Tyson beat Vlad and won all the belts. Whether you consider him lineal or not (since he's technically not), he still beat the man and he deserves respect for it.

Well several posters have tried to clear this up... One poster explained that the lineal is based on a claim at least partially, and that's true. Others explained that the lineal is based on beating the man and really being the first to do so, if we're honest.

Still others have explained that the idea of retirement is relative and that the idea of being a cheat xcetera is also secondary to the provisions of a lineal title holder. It's a very specific designation it's for the first guy to topple the King of the Hill. Fury was that guy and is back in the sport now.

People are trying to sanitize the title by putting Fury's situation under a microscope. It just doesn't work that way. And I don't know why other organizations are making claims about this title especially considering nobody thought about it until claim was made upon it.

You claim a title folks! Fans should be the ultimate arbitrators for who the lineal champ is. Because fans know, at least traditionally they knew, who the champ was and hence... Who beat the champ.

So ask yourself this question when Fury beat Klitschko, was Klitschko the man? Did Fury beat him? Is Fury fighting now? See how simple that is? You don't retire the lineal champ it just doesn't work that way.
